You might expect a Roald Dahl adaptation to be looking for young faces, but Esio Trot is slightly different, and so the first names attached to a movie version are Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench, according to Showbiz 411.
Irish director Dearbhla Walsh is behind this one, taking on Dahl’s sweet but slight tale (which will presumably be expanded for the screen. It follows Mr. Hoppy, a bashful older gent who falls is in love with Ms Silver, the woman who lives underneath him. She has a tiny pet tortoise that she wishes would grow larger, and so Mr. Hoppy comes up with a scheme to help.
It’s the sort of quirky tale that could make for an entertaining movie, and it will be interesting to see if they make this as a children’s film or try for something a little more grown-up.
