New Mirror Mirror Trailer

January 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When the first trailer for Mirror Mirror arrived online, the main reaction to the OTT farce on display was, ‘What the hell is that?’ It’s fair to say that in the battle of the Snow White movies, the Mirror Mirror teaser was roundly trounced by the entrancing first look at Snow White & the Huntsman. Now a new Mirror Mirror trailer has arrived, which tones things down and makes things look more traditionally fairy tale-esque and palatable.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Mirror Mirror is a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale starring Oscar® winner Julia Roberts as the Queen, Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Alcott, Sean Bean (“The Game of Thrones”, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as the King and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.

‘An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over.

‘Visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) rewrites fairy tale history as a wicked enchantress (Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan’s (Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Hammer). When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.

‘Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen. With the support of her subjects, she roars into action in an epic battle that blends spectacle, magic and contemporary humor in Singh’s signature, jaw-dropping visual style.’ The film is due out March 16th.

Julia Roberts Has The Normal Heart, About AIDS In The Early 80s

January 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Glee creator Ryan Murphy is a ridiculously busy man, as he’s also got American Horror Story on the go, found time to write and direct Eat Pray Love and for a while has been putting together a film adaptation of Larry Kramer’s Tony Award winning play. Mark Ruffalo’s been onboard the movie for a while, and he’s now been joined by Julia Roberts, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Bomer, and Jim Parsons (aka Sheldon from Big Bang Theory), according to THR.

The film is about the rise of AIDS in New York’s gay community in the early-to-mid 80s. The play first debuted Off-Broadway in 1985, and has enjoyed several revivals in Los Angeles and London. Ruffalo is taking on the lead role of Ned Weeks, one of the first people to raise an alarm about the new disease that initially was known as ‘Gay Cancer’.

Julia Roberts will play Emma Brookner, a wheelchair bound doctor who is the only one of her peers in New York taking AIDS seriously. Alec Baldwin is set to play Weeks’ brother, a lawyer struggling to come to terms with Ned’s sexuality. The incredibly handsome Matthew Bomer is playing Felix Turner, a gay fashion journalist, while Jim Parsons will reprise his stage role as a gay activist who forms a health crisis group.

The Normal Heart is set to shoot later this year and is set to be one of the highest profile gay-themed movies around.

New Posters: 21 Jump Street

December 20, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

New posters have popped up online for some of next year’s movie, so take a look above and below for new shots from 21 Jump Street, Mirror Mirror and Cosmopolis.

Although 21 Jump Street is loosely based on the 1980s Johnny Depp TV series of the same name, it’s a far more comic take on concept. It sees Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as a pair of underachieving cops who are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a drug ring. The poster above is fairly generic, but it ain’t bad. The film’s out March 16th. (Image via Moviefone)

The trailer for Mirror Mirror was pretty dreadful, but these two posters aren’t bad. Directed by Tarsem, the film is a comic take on the Snow White legend starring Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane. It’s due to his cinemas on March 16th.

Finally, this rather brooding poster for Cosmopolis has appeared over at CosmopolisFilm.com. David Cronenberg’s take on Don De Lillo’s novel stars Robert Pattinson as young billionaire Eric Packer (Pattinson) who starts out just wanting to get a haircut, but as the day progresses, he must deal with the fallout from the decisions he’s made in his life. The film’s out in 2012.

Julia Roberts Wants A Second Act

December 1, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

She’s currently busy being a Wicked Witch in the Snow White movie Mirror Mirror (which is out next March), and now she’s planning for the future, as THR reports that she’s set to produce and star in New Regency’s workplace comedy, Second Act.

The movie is about a woman who has never worked before and is forced to take a job. Presumably there are hilarious results (well, hopefully they’ll at least be mildly amusing results).

It’s early days as the project doesn’t currently have a writer or director, so Roberts won’t be shooting the film anytime soon. However she’s definitely increasing her work rate after taking some time off following the birth of her children.

Mirror Mirror Trailer

November 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week we got the first trailer for Snow White & The Huntsman, which surprised many by how good it looked. Now we have a promo for next year’s other Snow White movie, Mirror Mirror, which is unlikely to get as good a reaction. While the Huntsman was all dark, gothic and brooding, this one goes more for colour and comedy. It may not appeal to adult tastes, but could score well with a family audience. The Tarsem Singh directed movie stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane and is due in cinemas next March, a few months ahead of its rival’s July debut.
