Leonardo DiCaprio has a tendency to put a lot of movies into development through his production company, which he’s interested in starring in. But when it comes time to actually pick his next project, rather than going for one of the 20 he’s personally been developing, he chooses something completely different.
That’s true of The Revenant, which he was briefly circling a few years ago before leaving, but has now come back to and chosen as his next movie, according to Deadline.
Alejandro González Iñárritu is set to direct the movie from a script by Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith, which is in turn based on Michael Punke’s novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge. DiCaprio will play Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and then robbed. When he survives against all odds, he sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on his betrayers.
The movie is scheduled to start production in September with an autumn 2015 release already being eyed.
