The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Teaser Poster Arrives

June 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) will be back on December 13th when The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits cinemas.

Now the first poster for the movie has emerged, with Bilbo standing in front of the entrance to the mountain that contains untold amounts of gold, and also the dragon Smaug. Unsurprisingly, this beast is going to cause a lot of trouble for The Hobbit and the band of dwarves he’s travelling with.

We’ve also been promised that the first trailer for the movie will arrive on Tuesday, so look out for that!

Animals (LLGFF Review)

March 19, 2013 By Adrian Naik Leave a Comment

Starring: Oriol Pla, Augustus Prew, Martin Freeman
Director: Marcal Fores
Running Time: 91 mins

Animals follows teenager Pol as he tries to make sense of the confusing world around him. Sexual orientation, a pressure to fit in, and family expectations all seek to complicate his struggle to come to terms with adolescence. Fortunately for Pol, he is not alone, facing life with his imaginary friend ‘Deerhoof’, a teddy-bear who is very much alive. As a girl at school goes missing, Pol’s infatuation with the new boy, Ikara, takes a dark turn and he takes extreme measures to leave behind childish fantasies and find himself. [Read more…]

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & More In First Pic From The World’s End

December 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Worlds-End-pic1We’ve already had a poster for The World’s End, but now as a bit of a Christmas treat, Simon Pegg has tweeted the first official picture from the movie, which reunites the actor with Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright.

It’s a pic full of top British talent with Pegg and Frost alongside Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan and Paddy Considine. Filming is now winding down, as while I’ve been writing this, Frost has tweeted, ‘I’m officially wrapped on The Worlds End. Wow. What a trip!’

Here’s the synopsis: ’20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Pegg), a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.’

The film hits UK cinemas on August 14th 2013.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Cinema)

December 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Ken Stott, Andy Serkis
Director: Peter Jackson
Running Time: 169 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 13th 2012

After the gargantuan success of Lord Of The Rings, it was always going to be an uphill battle for The Hobbit to live up to those films’ critical success. That’s already been proved by the rather mixed reaction of the early reviews for An Unexpected Journey.

However, while there are definitely a few issues with the movie, for my money this is a largely successful trip back to Middle Earth, although as with Peter Jackson’s earlier fantasy movies, we’re only really going to be able to judge things once the final movie is released (people may have liked Fellowship and Two Towers, but if Return Of The King had been a load of old balls, it would have completely ruined the entire trilogy, as they’re essentially one very, very long film). Bilbo Finds Treasure In First The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Image

December 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday the first pic from the final Hobbit Movie, There & Back Again, arrived, showing us the return of Legolas, as well as Luke Evan’s human warrior character, Bard the Bowman. Now EW, has debuted our first look at the second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, which you can see above.

The image sees Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), sitting atop of massive pile of gold coins, which as fans of Tolkien’s book will know, is the treasure of the terrifying dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Writer/producer Philippa Boyens commentes, “The dragon is a huge, wonderful, amazing part of the story, but it doesn’t end there. Everyone can suspect there’s a rather large battle in film three.”

That fight is the Battle of Five Armies, which it would appear is going to be what most of the final film concetrates on, while the second focusses on the attempts to destroy Smaug. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens December 13, 2013, with There & Back Again coming the following summer.

Great Hobbit 13-Minute Featurette Arrives

December 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s less than a week until The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas. There’s a huge amount of anticipation and for those who can’t get enough on the film, there’s a great new 13-minute featurette, which includes plenty of new footage from the movie, as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes info on the making of the movie.

The movie has been getting slightly mixed notices – no one’s said it’s bad, but that perhaps it doesn’t quite hit the ridiculously high bar set by Lord Of The Ring, although it will be difficult to fully judge it until we’ve seen all three movies. We’ll all get to see what we think on December 13th.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey World Premiere Highlights

November 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last night (which of course was day on the other side of the world), the World Premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey took place in Wellington, New Zealand. Large chunks of the city were turned into Middle Earth for the event, in appreciation of the boost all things Lord Of The Rings have given to the country since Peter Jackson first decided to shoot the movie in his home nation over a decade ago.

Of course The Hobbit movies returned to New Zealand and much of the cast was in Wellington for the premiere, and you can see what they have to say in this highlights video.

The screening has led to rave reviews, suggesting that Jackson is onto another winner, and there’s also been praise for the decision to use a higher frame rate. While some criticised it when footage was shown at Comic Con, saying that while the 3D was better the look was too sharp, those at the premiere were duly impressed. Director Bryan Singer, who also saw the movie last night, admitted to having frame rate envy.

The movie hits cinemas on December 13th, when we’ll be able to see whether the premiere audience was right.

17 Great New The Hobbit Character Posters Debut

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The makers of The Hobbit seem to feel like they have a bit of a challenge before the first of the movies is released, which is that there’s an awful lot of new characters, mainly the dwarves, that need to be introduced. They’ve done a good job of making each one completely different from the others so they’ll be easily recognisable, but in marketing the movie they’re keen we get to know them before the film is released.

To help with that 17 new character posters have been released, featuring a bevy of new characters, including the dwarves and Bilbo, as well as old friends like Gollum, Gandalf and Galadriel. The posters debuted over at The Playlist, but you can see then above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The adventure of “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

‘Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and Martin Freeman, who won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC series “Sherlock,” takes on the central role of Bilbo Baggins. Also reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” movies are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum. The ensemble cast also includes (in alphabetical order) Richard Armitage, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas, and Aidan Turner.

‘The screenplays for “The Hobbit” films are by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson. Jackson is also producing the films, together with Fran Walsh and Carolynne Cunningham. The executive producers are Ken Kamins and Zane Weiner, with Philippa Boyens serving as co-producer.’

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 13th, 2012 from Warner Bros. Pictures, with The Desolation Of Smaug and There And Back Again arriving in 2013 and 2014. [Read more…]
