Oh, if only this were real. As it isn’t, I demand that the real Ryan Gosling must come to my house so I can use him as my husband pillow. Gorgeous New Gangster Squad Banner Debuts
There are high hopes for Gangster Squad, the upcoming Ruben Fleischer movie which takes on the real-life story of LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s. The film has an amazing cast, including Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie. The new banner above is gorgeous, recalling the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and – if he has his way – every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.’
The film hits UK cinemas on November 9th.

Gangster Squad Trailer – Ryan Gosling gets out his guns
Ever since the cast for Gangster Squad started coming together – Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone – it appeared it could be something special. Now we’ve got the trailer and it suggests the film will be extremely cool. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Los Angeles, 1949. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone May Reteam For Focus
I wondered when watching Crazy Stupid Love whether during the editing of the movie, it had become more about Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone than it had been in the original script, in order to make the most of their chemistry. Now it seems the film’s directors, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, want to continue that chemistry, as they’re trying to get the duo to team up again for their new film, Focus.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. picked up the directors’ script, which is about a con artist who teaches a new grifter the tricks of the trade, before they become romantically involved. Their paths then cross again in the future, which complicates both their lives.
No offers have been issued to either actor yet, but the hope is they will indeed agree to make the film and they have shown interest.
Drive (DVD)
Director: Nicolas Winding Refn, Ryan Gosling
Running Time: 96 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 30th. 2012
The release date of Drive deliberately seems to have set in the hope the movie would pick up a few Oscar nominations. While it only managed one – for Sound Editing – the film might well have been helped by the outrage many have expressed about the Academy pretty much ignoring it.
Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stunt driver, mechanic and getaway driver who strikes up a friendship/chaste romance with a young mother called Irene (Carey Mulligan), whose husband is in prison. When the hubby is released from jail, the driver agrees to help him with a robbery, in the hope this will ensure Irene and her son remain safe. However when things go wrong, it sets off an increasingly violent chain of events, with the driver’s life and that of everyone around him at threat from gangland heavies, including the brutal Nino (Ron Perlman) and gangster turned movie producer Bernie (Albert Brooks) [Read more…]
BGPS’s Advent Calendar Of Buff Blokes: Day 14 – Ryan Gosling
Today’s advent calendar entry is a bit of a cheat, as most of the gallery below was the very first thing I posted on this site. However as it went online before BGPS was properly open to the public, I don’t feel too guilty about posting it again. After all, Ryan Gosling is insanely gorgeous and the moment the studio realised people weren’t that interested in the recent movie Crazy Stupid Love, they released an array of shirtless shots of Ryan to try and draw punters in. And as Emma Stone notes in the film, his abs do indeed look like they’ve been photoshopped.

First Pic Of Bradley Cooper In The Words
It must be ‘first pics of BradleyCooper in films’ day or something, as the first images of him in both The Place Beyond The Pines and The Words have popped up online. The image above (via CinemaBlend) is from The Words, where Zoe Saldana seems to be using him as a blanket. The film is about an author (Cooper) who becomes massively successful after stealing another writer’s lost work and claiming it as his own. Unsurprisingly he must eventually pay the price for his theft. It’s not known when it will be released.
Below you can see pics from The Place Beyond The Pines, which sees Ryan Gosling reunite with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, along with Cooper. The film also sees Gosling once more playing a stuntman (as in Drive), but this time on motorbikes. He plays a stunt rider who who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued.
