Sam Rockwell Circling Poltergeist Reboot

August 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sam-rockwellA couple of weeks ago the long gestating remake of Poltergeist stepped up a gear when it was announced that Rosemarie Dewitt had signed up to star. Now she may have some company as TheWrap reports that Sam Rockwell is in early talks to join her.

Gil Kenan (Monster House) is set to direct, with Rockwell up to play the husband of Rosemarie DeWitt’s character, taking over the role played by Craig T. Nelson is the original. The movie is about the Bowen family, whose lives are turned upside down when paranormal forces begin to take hold of their youngest daughter, Madison. Sam Rockwell is reportedly weighing a number of offers, including a supporting role in Sony’s musical remake Annie, but it is believed that Poltergeist will be the actor’s next project assuming contract terms are sorted out.

The hope is to shoot the movie later this year for release in 2014.

New A Single Shot Trailer – Sam Rockwell is getting dramatic, and armed!

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sam Rockwell is moving away from comedy with A Single Shot, a rather more dramatic role than we’re used to from him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A Single Shot brings together a wealth of indie stalwarts, including Sam Rockwell, William H. Macy, Melissa Leo and Jeffrey Wright, to paint a tense portrait of John Moon, a man attempting to win back his estranged family while desperately outrunning an accidental crime. Director David M. Rosenthal returns to the Festival with this ominously atmospheric and suspenseful backwoods tale of circumstance, based on Matthew F. Jones’s 1996 novel. After the loss of his family farm, John Moon is a desperate man. A master hunter, his ability to poach game in-season or out is the only thing that stands between him and the soup kitchen line. Until Moon trespasses on the wrong land, hears a rustle in the brush, and fires a single fateful shot.’

A Single Shot is on iTunes and VOD on August 20th in the US, and in theaters September 20th. No UK dates is currently set. [Read more…]

The Way, Way Back Trailer – Steve Carrell is a dick alongside Toni Collette & Sam Rockwell

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems it’s the grown ups rather than the teenagers that are the asses in The Way, Way Back, with Steve Carell telling his girlfriend’s son he’s only a three out of ten, and Allison Janney getting described by her offspring as a terrible mother.

The film is from writer/directors Jim Rash (best known as Dean Pelton in Community) and Nat Faxon, who won an Oscar earlier last year for writing the script for The Descendants. The coming of age flick follows a teenager trying to deal with a dysfunctional mother (Toni Collette) and her boorish boyfriend (Steve Carell). He finds a summer job at a local water park and strikes up an unlikely friendship with its manager, played by Sam Rockwell. Amanda Peet, Maya Rudolph, Allison Janney, and Rob Corddry also star. No UK release date is currently set.

It due out July 5th in the US, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Anne Hathaway Chloe Moretz and Sam Rockwell Join Laggies

March 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anne-hathawayDirector Lynn Shelton (Your Sister’s Sister) must be pleased with the cast she’s pulling together for her dark comedy Laggies, as Deadline reports that Anne Hathaway, Chloe Moretz, Mark Webber and Sam Rockwell are in final talks to star in the film.

The film is about Megan (Anne Hathaway), a woman who pretends to go on a work retreat after a surprise proposal from her boyfriend. However what she’s really doing is hiding out with her 16-year-old sister Annika (Chloe Moretz). Mark Webber is in talks to play Megan’s boyfriend, while Sam Rockwell will be Craig, although it’s not completely clear how he fits into the movie.

Andrea Seigel wrote the screenplay which Lynn Shelton will direct from.

Sam Rockwell & Maria Tomei Ask Why Now

September 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It always good when Sam Rockwell signs up for a movie, and now he’s got a new one, with Screen Daily reporting that he, Brian Geraghty and Marisa Tomei are set to star in Why Now, which will be helmed by actors turned writer/directors Michael Godere and Ivan Martin.

Godere and Martin have also included roles for themselves in the flick, although there aren’t many details on the plot. Interestingly, it seems Rockwell, Geraghty and Tomei must have been very intrigued by the script, as they’re certainly not getting a big payday. The movie has a budget of only $500,000, so they the directors have certainly scared up a good cast for a movie with very little cash to splash.

The plan is to shoot next month in upstate New York.

Melissa Leo & More Join Sam Rockwell In A Single Shot

April 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Sam Rockwell spends most of his time in supporting roles, occassionally he gets to take on a meaty leading role. He’s got just such a part in A Single Shot, which recently started shooting and has now announced a rather rocking supporting cast, with Deadline reporting that William H. Macy, Jeffrey Wright, Joe Anderson, Jason Isaacs, Kelly Reilly, Ophelia Lovibond, and Melissa Leo are all onboard.

Based on Matthew F. Jones’s novel (who also wrote the screeplay), A Single Shot is the story of a dark and deadly game of cat and mouse, prompted by the tragic death of a young girl. Rockwell plays a wild-game poacher who makes a fatal mistake that leaves him with a suitcase full of blood money and hardened killers on his trail. As the hunter becomes the hunted, John Moon is forced to defend his family and fight for his life.

David M. Rosenthal is directing.
