Although Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2, she didn’t have an awful lot to do in the movie. However she’s back in The Avengers, and along with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, is the major character we’ve see least of. It’s not surprising therefore that the first official clip form the film is dedicated to her, showing they she can kick ass with the best of them and that this won’t just be a testosterone fest (assuming Asgardgian gods like Thor have testosterone, of course). Here Black Widow/Natasha Romanova being called into action by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson. The film hits UK cinemas on April 26th, when Black Widow will be joined by Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Julianne Moore Joins Gordon-Levitt’s Directorial Debut
Actress Julianne Moore has joined the cast of the Joseph Gordon-Levitt untitled directorial debut (once known as Don Jon’s Addiction), appearing alongside Scarlett Johansson who signed up to star in the film last month.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will also star as a Don Juan-type character, who goes on a journey to become a less selfish person. Julianne Moore will play a mentor to this lothario, but it still isn’t known what role Scarlett Johansson is playing.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will direct from his own original screenplay, with production is scheduled to begin next month. While acotrs becoming directors isn’t normally that interested, Gordon-Levitt’s a bit of a exception and many will be keen to see what he comes up with, and he’s certainly getting a good cast together to help him. Jessica Biel Joins Alfred Hitchcock & The Making of Psycho
It’s the closest Jessica Biel is likely to get to being in a film as good as Psycho, but the actress has joined Sacha Gervasi’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, according to Deadline, about the creation of the classic 60s chiller. Biel is playing the role of actress Vera Miles, who played Lila Crane in Psycho.
Earlier this month Scarlett Johansson signed on to play Janet Leigh, joining Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma. The film will follow every aspect of the creation of director Alfred Hitchcock’s famous thriller Psycho, based on Stephen Rebello’s book that goes behind-the-scenes on everything from the story’s original inspiration to the controversy surrounding the creation of the famous shower scene. It’s an interesting story, as most thought Hitchcock had gone nuts making a low budget, black and white movie in the much derided (at the time) horror genre, and he had to fight to get it made.
The movie will shoot later this year.
Four New Avengers Character Banners Arrive
Marvel is certainly going all out to hype up The Avengers (or as we have to call it in the UK now, Avengers Assemble), with a seemingly endless stream of images, poster and trailers, all designed to get as many people as possible counting the days until the film’s April release.
Now four new character posters have popped up online, so take a look above and below to enjoy them.
Scarlett Johansson On For The Making Of Psycho
Scarlett Johansson and James D’Arcy have signed up for Sacha Gervasi’s rather intriguing movie, Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, a movie that sounds like it’ll be great fun for film fans. The project already has Anthony Hopkins playing Alfred Hitchcock and Helen Mirren is as his wife, Alma, who was almost as important to the Hitchcock filmmaking machine as Alfred was.
As the title suggests, the film is about making of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960s classic, Psycho. Scarlett Johansson will play the movie’s lead actress, Janet Leigh, with James D’Arcy playing Anthony Perkins. John McLaughlin wrote the script from the Stephen Rebello book with the same name.
Rebello’s book goes behind-the-scenes of the creation of the film from the story’s original inspiration to the controversy surrounding the creation of the famous shower scene. He drew his inspiration from interviews with cast members as well as Alfred Hitchcock’s private files.
The film will shoot later this year for release in 2013. (Source: Variety)

Avengers Gets A New Name And A New Poster To Prove It
Marvel’s The Avengers is no more, in the UK at least, as with less than two months before its release, the movie has a new title. So what’s it going to be called? Well, distributor Disney has revealed it’ll be known as Marvel Avengers Assemble in Britain, and they’ve released the poster above to prove it.
An Avengers assemble trailer is promised tomorrow afternoon, which will hopefully be packed with cool footage. The new title seems to have been adopted because casual moviegoers were wondering if it was another remake of 1960s Avengers TV show.
Just one question though, why in the poster is Chris Evans about 25ft tall?
Here’s the amended official synopsis: ‘Marvel Studios presents “Marvel Avengers Assemble”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Hailee Steinfeld Asks Can a Song Save Your Life?
Hailee Steinfeld made a big impact and scored an Oscar nomination for True Grit, but as so often happens when an actor comes out of nowhere, it takes a while until we see them in a follow-up role. She’s currently shooting Romeo & Juliet and she’s also booked in Ender’s Game, and now THR reports she’s joined the cast of the musical Can a Song Save Your Life? So it certainly seems we’ll see plenty of her in future.
The movie is about Gretta (Scarlett Johansson), a talented young singer who moves to New York City with her boyfriend, only to have him dump her when he gets a solo recording contract. Gretta crosses paths with a depressed record producer (Mark Ruffalo) and they strike up a relationship which could save each others careers. Steinfeld will play Ruffalo’s daughter.
John Carney, who scored a major success with the Irish musical feature Once, is directing Can a Song Save Your Life? from his own original screenplay. Production is scheduled to start in June.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt Turns Director, With Scarlett Johansson Starring
Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has landed Scarlett Johansson to star in an untitled comedy project, which will serve as the in-demand actor’s directorial debut. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how he does behind the camera, as he could well have an interesting and quirky eye.
Deadline says Gordon-Levitt will also star in the comedy as a egotistical womaniser, who goes on a quest to be less of a, ‘selfish dick.’ It isn’t known what role Scarlett Johansson will play, and there is apparently another female lead role that’s yet to be cast.
And just to ensure it really is the Joseph Gordon-Levitt show, he also wrote the original screenplay he will direct from.
The actor and now writer and director commented, “I was a child actor for years and quit at 19, went to school awhile, and a big part of why I came back was that I ultimately wanted to make movies. I spent a year working with Christopher Nolan, Rian Johnson, Steven Spielberg, and I did my best to pay attention. I’ve also been making short films for a long time now, I’ve directed a ton of them, and that is a huge part of why I feel comfortable and confident in this.”
Shooting is scheduled to commence April 16, which may mean Gordon-Levitt has to drop out of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, since production on that is scheduled to start around the same time.
The Avengers Extended Super Bowl Spot
Meet the Hulk! As we get closer to the April 27th release of The Avengers, the footage certainly get more spectacular, with this new extended Super Bowl being the most explosive yet. Not only do we get to see plenty of things exploding and superheroes assembling, but we also get out first look at the film’s Hulk. Here’s the synopsis, ‘Marvel Studios presents Marvel’s The Avengers—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
