A new trailer for Tom Cruise’s upcoming thriller Jack Reacher has arrived, which gives things an oddly (and I presume deliberately James Bond-ish feel). The movie, which is out December 21st, sees Tom as Lee Childs’ ex–military investigator, Jack Reacher. He looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, an investigator that gets ever deeper and darker. As the trailer proves, it looks like Cruise is in intense mode for this one, although there’s a perhaps surprisingly humourous edge.
Tom Cruise Circles Our Name Is Adam, Plus A New Jack Reacher Poster Arrives
Tom Cruise sure likes sci-fi at the moment. He’s already shot Oblivion, should start filming All You Need Is Kill soon and now Variety reports that he’s become attached to another sci-fi script called Our Name Is Adam.
TS Nowlin is behind the screenplay, but at the moment there’s no info on the story, although the title certainly hints at cloning – so perhaps we’ll be getting thousands of Tom Cruises in the movie (I can imagine he’d quite like that).
However before all this sci-fi, in December we get Jack Reacher, where Cruise plays Lee Child’s title character, an ex-military investigator, who looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, which turns out to be far deeper and darker than he expected. A new poster for the film has been released, suggested Tom doesn’t have any limits! You can take a look at that above.
Rock Of Ages (DVD)
Director: Adam Shankman
Running Time: 118 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: October 8th 2012
The film adaptation of the 2009 Broadway musical is two hours of high energy 80s rock music coupled with laugh out loud comedy, as we see a young girl search for fame and fortune in the bright lights of Hollywood, set against the underside of the rock music industry.
Filled with great songs of the classic rock era – which has no doubt led it be being one of the last decade’s most popular musicals – the film makes you want to dance around and sing for the whole duration of the film. Although the music in the film is great, credit has to be given for the themes, of which several run through the film, with a sweet young love story evolving whilst the upside and downside of fame counterbalance each other in the background. Another theme that the film touches on is the clear mockery of the right wing with their wholesome image hiding a few dirty secrets. [Read more…]
Jack Reacher International Poster Debuts
I wonder if there’s a clause in Tom Cruise’s contracts that ensures that at least one poster for each of his films is a giant close-up of his face. The one for his upcoming Jack Reacher has now arrived via Yahoo!, with Cruise looking suitably brooding and slightly bloodied.
The movie hits cinemas in December and sees Cruise as Lee Childs’ Jack Reacher, an ex-military investigator, who looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, which turns out to be far deeper and darker than he expected.
Bill Paxton In Talks To Join Cruise For All You Need Is Kill
Tom Cruise has been attached to All You Need Is Kill for over a year, with Emily Blunt joining him a few months ago. However it’s only now things have moved close enough to production that they’re starting to fill out the cast, with THR reporting that Bill Paxton is in talks for the film.
The film is based on a graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and tells the story of a solider (Cruise) who is forced to keep reliving the last day of his life over and over again after he is killed in a war against an alien race. The solider uses these time loops to train and become a better soldier (it’s a little bit Groundhog Day and a little bit like a videogame). Should he accept the role, Paxton will play the “tough leader of Cruise’s platoon.”
Dante Harper (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) wrote the script with Joby Harold (who is in the midst of doing a rewrite). Doug Liman will direct, with production set to start later this year in London.
All You Need Is Kill Adds Charlotte Riley
Tom Cruise is going to be hanging round quite a few British women on the set of All You Need Is Kill, as Emily Blunt has already signed up to co-star, and now she’s been joined by Tom Hardy’s fiance, Charlotte Riley (and just for the fact she gets to sleep with Tom, we hate her). It’ll be her first major role within the Hollywood system.
The movie is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s graphic novel, which is about a soldier who is killed during an on-going war between human and alien forces. He mysteriously keeps reliving his last day on Earth over and over again, eventually becoming a better soldier each time he steps into battle – sort of Groundhog Day meets a video-game. Charlotte Riley plays a fellow soldier fighting alongside Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
Doug Liman will direct from an adapted screenplay by D.W. Harper, with Joby Harold performing the most recent rewrite. Shooting is scheduled to begin this autumn in London.
Jack Reacher Trailer – Tom Cruise gets intense
Tom Cruise has had a busy week. That’s because it was his 50th birthday yesterday. As I’m sure you’re aware, absolutely nothing else of interest has happened to him in the last few days, and there have been no rumours swirling around as to why that thing didn’t happen. So it’s a good time to release the trailer for Jack Reacher, as nobody is going to be concentrating on anything else about Cruise! The movie, which is out December 21st, sees Tom as Lee Childs’ ex–military investigator, Jack Reacher. He looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, an investigator that gets ever deeper and darker. As the trailer proves, it looks like Cruise is in intense mode for this one.
Manhunt Offers Tom Cruise A Lifetime Membership
Sure it’s just a publicity (and admittedly we’re buying into it), but it amused us anyway! The gay dating site Manhunt has offered Tom Cruise a lifetime membership, now that he getting divorced from Katie Holmes and rumours are swirling around his sexuality once more.
Will he take up the offer?
First Pic Of Tom Cruise As Jack Reacher
Tom Cruise has been busy shooting an adaptation of One Shot, in which he takes on Lee Child’s popular character Jack Reacher. Now EW has revealed the first official image from the movie, which you can see above.
There has been some controversy over this adaptation, since Jack Reacher is a hulking 6’5″ man in Lee Child’s noveld, and Tom Cruise is only 5’7″. The actor recently revealed that the author approved of his casting, saying, “For those of you who know the books, I’m obviously not 6-foot-5, like Jack Reacher. But Lee felt that I was the right guy to drive fast cars and kick the s-t out of people onscreen.”
In the novel, Reacher looks into the case of a trained military sniper who shot five random victims. Director Christopher McQuarrie comments on the character, “Someone asks him at one point in the story about the difference between a military policeman and a regular cop. Reacher points out that [for military police], every suspect is a trained killer. He is free from any sort of anxiety. He is truly not encumbered by all the bulls-t that makes up our daily lives. He literally and figuratively has no baggage.”
Rock Of Ages (Cinema)
Director: Adam Shankman
Running Time: 123 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: June 13th, 2012
I have a horrible feeling a lot of critics are going to rip into Rock Of Ages, but I for one loved it. While it has its problems, it made me smile about 30 seconds in and I was beaming when I came out. It’s silly, cheesy and sometimes verges on the ridiculous, but it’s also a hell of a lot of fun, with a plethora of hair metal hits being shoe-horned in, Glee-style (or Mamma Mia! style, if you prefer).
The plot (which to be honest there isn’t a huge amount of) follows Sherrie, who arrives in LA from Oklahoma full of dreams of making it big in the City of Angels. She’s barely off the bus when she bumps into Drew (Diego Boneta), who gets her a job at the famed club, The Bourbon Room. Soon Sherrie and Drew are falling in love, but as the big time beckons for Drew, the course of true love won’t run smooth. [Read more…]
