Guardians Of The Galaxy Poster, Plus Introductions To Chris Pratt’s Character & More

February 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guardians-of-the-galaxy-poster1
After the release of the trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy, now we get a poster along with a quartet of featurettes introducing us to the movie’s main characters – Vin Diesel’s Groot, Dave Bautista’s Drax, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord.

It’s a smart idea as with few people outside comic fans known the Guardians, giving an early introduction to what to many may seem bizarre characters should help sort out any qualms. You can take a look at the character featurettes below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969). James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” releases in UK cinemas on August 1, 2014.’ [Read more…]

First Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer – The Marvel movie is looking pretty cool & so is Chris Pratt

February 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Guardians Of The Galaxy was first announced, a few people were left scratching their heads. Most who weren’t comic fans had never heard of it, and when they found out it was set in space but featured a living tree and a talking raccoon, many were ready the pass it off as a major mistake on Marvel’s part. However now the first trailer is here and it’s looking really cool and as if it could be a lot of fun.

‘From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel has obviously learned a lot from their previous films, and seems to have smartly gone for an outer space look that’s grimy enough to be believable, while having plenty of humour to help keep the whole moving along. No we can’t wait to see the whole thing!

Chris Pratt & More In New Guardians Of The Galaxy Pics, Ahead Of The Imminent Trailer

February 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-pic2
Guardians Of The Galaxy is a big movie and as it’s based on a property few people outside comic fans know, it’s probably gonna need a lot of promotion. That’s started to kick into gear with the release of three new images from the Marvel movie, via USA Today, ahead a trailer that’s promised late Tuesday night US time.

It certainly looks pretty cool, although rather different to what we’ve seen from Marvel so (and certainly with a lot more CG characters). It also gives us a decent view of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Peter Quill a.k.a. Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax The Destroyer (Dave Bautista).

The USA Today article tells us a bit about the movie, saying ‘[The Guardians’] stories converge in the space prison Kyln. After the characters break out, they venture to Knowhere (the severed head of a celestial being that serves as a hangout for aliens) and visit the weird menagerie of the Collector (Benicio Del Toro). They also have to avoid two villains, Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who are in hot pursuit of Quill’s orb, which has the power to destroy the galaxy.’

The movie’s due out in August.

Sam Worthington & Zoe Saldana Both Back For Three Avatar Sequels

January 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

avatar-posterWhile Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana signed up for more than one Avatar movie when they first agreed to appear in the record-grossing movie, it’s believed the time it’s taken to get a follow-up ready has resulted in their deals lapsing and they weren’t contracted for the three more films that James Cameron now has planned anyway.

That said, it’s still not too surprising that Worthington and Saldana have finalised deals to appear in all three Avatar sequels, which will be shot back-to-back with Avatar 2 arriving in December of 2016, followed by Avatar 3 in 2017 and Avatar 4 in 2018.

The only actor we’ve officially known would be back before is Stephen Lang, who played the villain Marine Colonel Quaritch. As his character died at the end of the first movie, its not known how he’ll be resurrected.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are penning the third installment, while Shane Salerno is tackling the fourth film, all working from the overall story arc that James Cameron came up with. While it’s known the films will return to Pandora, no story details have officially been revealed. However it’s been said the film will explore far more of Pandora and it’s believed Jake Sully and Neytiri will have had kids.

James Cameron commented,”Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.” (Source: THR)

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-pic1
Marvel has had a huge amount of success with its Avengers related movies, but it’s trying something a bit different in 2014 with Guardians Of The Galaxy, a comic property most people know little about. Don Cheadle To Direct & Star In Miles Davis Biopic, With Ewan McGregor & Zoe Saldana Also Attached

November 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

don-cheadleThere have been various attempts at making a biopic of Miles Davis, but now one’s moving forward as Don Cheadle, Ewan McGregor, and Zoe Saldana are set to star in Kill the Trumpet Player, which is based on a few dangerous days in the life of the musician, fighter and genius, as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer (McGregor) to steal back his music.

Cheadle is set to play Davis and will be pulling double-duty and he’s set to make his feature directorial debut from a script co-written with Steven Baigelman. The actor has been involved for a couple of years, but it’s only now it’s getting made. Herbie Hancock, a legend in his own right and close collaborator of Davis, will participate in the project as well.

There’s no news on who McGregor and Saldana will play.

BiFrost Picture’s Daniel Wagner commented, “Don is one of our generation’s greatest actors, and this is the role he was born to play. His take on the conventional biopic of one of music’s most celebrated icons is cinematic “jazz” and too unique to resist. It fits naturally with BiFrost’s commitment to support talent and their passion projects, so we are thrilled to work with Don on his feature directorial debut.”

Star Trek Into Darkness (Blu-ray)

September 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban
Director: JJ Abrams
Running Time: 131 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: Spetember 2nd 2013

While JJ Abrams’ reinvention of Star Trek has proven very popular with audiences, there are quite a few uber-fans of the TV incarnations who pretty much seem to think Abrams is the anti-Christ. If they’d been hoping that Star Trek Into Darkness would be an olive branch, taking things back to exactly how they’d been before, they were sadly mistaken. Instead the movie forges forward with its parallel reality, doing things that will ensure classic Trek fans who didn’t like the first film will be absolutely spitting feathers at its twisting of earlier stories, while others will love the way it cleverly renews things.
