Andy & Lana Wachowski Join Justice League Shortlist

August 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner Bros. is currently hunting for a director to take the helm on their planned Justice League of America movie. Recently it was reported that ben Affleck had been offered the job, but it’s now been confirmed he won’t take the job. he’s told the Canadian press (via THR) that “It sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”.

Now Moviehole has word that Warner is now considering Cloud Atlas directors Andy and Lana Wachowski for the superhero ensemble. The studio is reportedly very excited about Cloud Atlas’ immense scope and its ensemble cast, two things the Justice League of America movie will certainly have.

It isn’t clear if a formal offer has been made to the siblings or if it’s just an idea the studio’s had at the moment. They also have projects such as Cobalt Neutral 9 and Jupiter Ascending in the works, although it isn’t known if either of those will be their next picture (and both may have funding issues, which have already delayed the ‘gay Iraq war story’ Cobalt Neutral 9.

Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is working on the Justice League screenplay, which will likely bring together DC Comics luminaries such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern.

Trans Matrix Director Lana Wachowski Makes A Rare Appearance In Cloud Atlas Video

July 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Before the release of 2008’s Speed Racer, it was revealed that Lana Wachowski, who had directed the likes of The Matrix movies as Larry, was in the process of transitioning from male to female.

Lana completed her transition at some point after the release of Speed Racer, and then set to work, still alongside Andy, on several ambitious projects. One of her planned films, described as a ‘gay Iraq war love story’, couldn’t find funding, but they’ve now shot Cloud Atlas, with Run Lola Run’s Tom Twyker joining them for the multi-story film, which stars the likes of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw and Hugh Grant.

Now Lana has made her first official appearance since her transition (she and Andy never have made many public appearances, so it’s unsurprising it’s taken a while until we’ve seen her) in a video in which she, Andy and Tom joke around and explain the creative process that went into making Cloud Atlas. You can watch that video above, and we’ve also embedded the epic and fascinating trailer they’re talking about below.

Cloud Atlas Extended Trailer – Will the ambitious multi-story epic work?

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We just posted some of the first images from the Wachowskis’ and Tom Twyker’s ambitious Cloud Atlas, and now Den Of Geek has tipped us off to an extended trailer for the fascinating looking movie, which you can watch right here. The movie, based on David Mitchell’s novel spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors, including Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent and Tom Hanks play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders. The trailer suggests it could be very good, although it does depend on how the different stories are knitted together. Cloud Atlas should hit cinemas later this year.

First Look At Tom Hanks & Halle Berry In Cloud Atlas

July 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At was revealed last week that the Wachowskis’ and Tom Twyker’s Cloud Atlas will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, now the first images of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent in the movie have appeared via EW.

The story spans hundreds of years, showing how individual lives affect others in the past, present, and future through a series of stories. The actors play different people in each story, jumping between different races and genders.

Here’s what co-director Lana Wachowski had to say about this time-bending adaptation, “We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters. Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years.”

You can see a few more pics over at EW.

Channing Tatum Offered The Wachowskis Jupiter Ascending

March 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Wachowskis siblings aren’t big fans of letting the world know what they’re up to, but they’re currently in post-production of Cloud Atlas, their planned ‘gay Iraq movie’ has bitten the dust due to lack of funding, and the only other thing on the horizon is a slightly mysterious sci-fi project called Jupiter Ascending.

That latter movie is now going ahead, as Deadline reports that Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis have been offered the lead roles in the film. Back in January it was rumoured that actress Natalie Portman was strongly considering the female lead, but that role has now gone to Kunis. Little has been revealed about the story line, except that it will be Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski’s first sci-fi movie since The Matrix trilogy.

The Wachowskis hope to start shooting later this year.

Behind-The-Scenes Shot From Cloud Atlas

December 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Cloud Atlas is certainly an unusual movie, with three directors helming two separate units, telling six tales using the same actors in each, although the stars could be playing different races and genders in each story. To celebrate production ending on the movie, Empire has debuted a behind-the-scenes photo from the shoot, which you can see above.

In the centre of the shot are directors Tom Twyker, Lana Wachowsi and Andy Wachowski, while David Mitchell, who wrote the book the film is based on, is sat towards the back. The other guys are Cloud Atlas’ producers. Interestingly, it’s believed this is the first official image released of Lana Wachowski since she started living full-time as a woman. Although a few other shots of the notoriously publicity shy Wachowskis have surfaced in the last couple of years, this is the first official one.

Here’s a synopsis of the complex but intriguing film: ‘A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilization — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.’

Cloud Atlas stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Bae Doona and should hit cinemas towards the end of 2012.

Wachowskis Directing Jupiter Ascending

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Cloud Atlas, the first film directed by the Wachowski siblings (along with Tom Twyker) since 2008’s Speed Racer, has just gone into production, and it seems Andy and Lana are keen that there won’t be such a big gap between their next movies. They have their follow-up planned already with the Warner Bros. project Jupiter Ascending.

The storyline is being kept under tight wraps, but the project is said to bring Andy and Lana Wachowski back to their sci-fi roots. The Wachowski’s came up with the original idea and will write the screenplay. The directors and studio are currently mulling over which A-list actor to pitch the project to.

It isn’t known when Cloud Atlas will wrap production, although it is said Jupiter Ascending is being targeted to start production as early as spring 2012.

But what about the ‘Hard-R gay Iraq movie’ that was mooted for the Wachowskis before they committed to Cloud Atlas? That film, Cobalt Neutral 9,is apparently dead in the water, since they couldn’t secure financing.
