He may be best known as an actor, but until the TV series Big Love came along to fill up his time, Pill Paxton was also beginning to carve a career for himself as a director with The Greatest Game Ever Played and the excellent Frailty. Now he’s planning to get back behind the camera as Variety reports that Paxton is in talks to direct the Kung Fu for Legendary Pictures.
The movie is based on the classic 70s TV series that starred David Carradine. He played a Shaolin monk as he wandered across America, protesting that he had a desire for peace but regularly having to show off his impressive martial arts skills. It seems likely though that this movie will either change the plot significantly or focus on the early days of the character when he was in Asia learning the ways of the East, as the movie is set to film in China.
John J. McLaughlin (Black Swan) is writing the script, with filming likely to shoot as next summer.
