First Look At (A Shirtless & Ripped) Alexander Skargsard & Margot Robbie In Tarzan

December 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tarzan-poster1-slideDavid Yates is a ridiculously busy man. He’s currently shoot the very complex and big budget Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beast & Where To Find Them and simultaneously working on post-production on the the very complex and big budget Tarzan. Warner, which is backing both movies, reckons he can do both, but it’s a lot of work for one man to take on.

However with Tarzan coming out first, we’ve now got our first look at Alexander Skarsgard in the title role, alongside Margot Robbie as Jane. There’s no doubt that Skarsgard spent a lot of time in the gym for this one – indeed he had to go on a four month diet and exercise regimen before filming began.

As well as debuting the pics, USA Today quotes Skarsgard as saying on the movie, “This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

However, Yates wants to point it it’s not just about the guy, as Jane is “in no way a passive partner to Tarzan. She’s a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself… In a way, it’s a story of two human beings and how they save each other.”

Take a look at the pics below. Tarzan will be in cinemas next summer.

First Pics Of Eddie Redmayne In JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

November 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-beasts-logoWhen I saw the final Harry Potter movie at the cinema, at the end a guy behind me, who was probably about 20, said, “Well, that’s the end of my childhood.” It was one of the most oddly poignant remarks I’ve ever heard, as to an extent he was right – something he had grown up was coming to an end just as he himself was becoming an adult.

However, it turns out it’s not 100% over, as JK Rowling is taking us back into her Wizarding World by writing the script for Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them (plus, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is heading to the London stage). The first images from the movie have now arrived, which you can see below.

Set about 80 years before the Potter stories, the film stars Eddie Redmayne as world-famous magizoologist Newt Scamander, who embarks on an adventure in 1926 New York. Not too much is known about the exact plot, although EW remarks that the briefcase seen in the pic is somehow ‘pivotal’, and that in their cover image sees Scamander standing in front of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), the American equivalent of the Ministry of Magic.

Potter helmer David Yates is back in the director’s chair, with the film due out November 2016. [Read more…]

Ezra Miller In Talks For Harry Potter Spin-off Fantastic Beasts, Opposite Eddie Redmayne

June 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ezra-MillerIf you were going to put a bet on which actor fame was going to go into overdrive in the next couple of year, Ezra Miller would be a safe choice. He’s already been chosen to be The Flash in Warner’s Justice League project (he’ll first be seen as the character in Batman vs. Superman next year), and now the studio is also trying to line him up for their Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, according to Variety.

He’s currently in talks for the role of Kredan in the JK Rowling scripted movie (which is due to become a trilogy), which already has Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston onboard. Harry Potter helmer David Yates is due to direct.

The movie is set 70 years before the Harry Potter movies and follows ‘magiczoologist’ Scamander after he sets out to write the book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (which is one of Harry’s textbooks). Waterston will play a witch called Tina (short for Porpetina) who Newt meets on his travels.

Kredan meanwhile is ‘a person with magical powers who encounters… Scamander when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures.’ And knowing how Rowling names her characters, there’s a possibility he won’t be a good guy.

The film is due out Nov. 18, 2016.

Eddie Redmayne Is The Top Choice For Harry Potter Spin-off Fantastic Beasts

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eddie-RedmayneFor quite some time JK Rowling has been working on the script for the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, with the first part of the three movie series coming November 18th, 2016 (with 2018 & 2019 set for the parts 2 &3). There’s also a director, with David Yates set to return to the Potter realm for the movie.

What’s the film is currently lacking is someone to play the movie’s hero, Newt Scamander, but now Variety says Yates and Warner Bros. are narrowing down their choices and that currently Eddie Redmayne is the top choice for the role. No offer has been made and a few other actors are being considered, including Nicholas Hoult, but the Theory Of Everything Oscar winner is the front-runner.

The movie is set 70 years before the Harry Potter movies and follows ‘magiczoologist’ Scamander after he sets out to write the book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (which is one of Harry’s textbooks). The other main characters are two American girls and two American boys, who will be cast soon.

David Yates May Return To The Harry Potter World For Fantastic Beasts

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-yatesEver since Warner Bros. announced that JK Rowling had agreed to script a film set in the world of Harry Potter – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – there’s been speculation about who would direct the first in this planned franchise.

Now it seems it’s be a familiar face, as Variety reports that David Yates is in talks to helm the movie. He is of course the man who helmed the last four Potter movies. Since Deathly Hallows was released, he’s circled many movies, and while his take on Tarzan is now in production, he’s had a surprising amount of difficulty getting projects off the ground, so perhaps a return to the Potter world isn’t too surprising.

The film will follow the adventures of the Newt Scamander, 70 years before the Harry Potter first arrives at Hogwarts, as he discovers the terrible beasties that feature in the textbook that Harry has to use during his time at school. The spin-off will introduce a new set of characters and creatures, although set in a Wizarding universe that will be familiar to HP fans.

Warner Bros. has set a November 18th, 2016 release date.

Samuel L. Jackson in Talks To Join Alexander Skarsgard In Tarzan

December 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

samuel-l-jacksonAlexander Skarsgard and Christoph Waltz may have some company in Warner Bros.’ live action take on Tarzan, as Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson is in talks for a role in the movie.

Harry Potter helmers David Yates is set to direct the movie. There’s no official details on the plot or the exact direction the movie will take the famed character, although we do know Skarsgard will be Tarzan, with Waltz playing the main villain.

It’s not 100% clear who Jackson will play, although it is known that an earlier incarnation of the character was called Williams and was described as “A Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans”. Jackson was flirting with the part some time ago, but backed out at the time due to scheduling issues. That allowed Jamie Foxx to step in. However the whole project was delayed for a rewrite and rejig, which has allowed Jackson to come back onboard.

Harry Potter Helmer David Yates To Direct Who Is Jake Ellis?

October 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-YatesHarry Potter helmer David Yates is busy putting his live-action version of Tarzan together, but he’s already thinking about what he wants to do after that, as THR reports that 20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the comic series Who Is Jake Ellis?, with Yates attached to helm.

The trade says, ‘Described as having elements of Bourne, Memento and Fight Club, the story follows Jon Moore, a former CIA analyst and mercenary spy on the run, protected only by the mysterious title character “Jake Ellis,” a man seemingly invisible to everyone except Jon, but who has a unique knowledge of tradecraft that Jon desperately needs.’

Written by Nathan Edmonson and drawn by Tonci Zonjic, the comic was followed by sequel, Where Is Jake Ellis?. It’s early days for the adaptation though, as no writer are currently attached.

Christoph Waltz & Emma Stone Wanted For Tarzan, Opposite Alexander Skarsgard

September 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

christoph-waltzOften when a movie gets delayed, it’s a polite way of saying we’ll never hear anything about it again. It appeared that might happen to David Yates’ new live-action take on Tarzan, when in April Warner put the brakes on due to the high budget. Even the production office was shut down, which is usually a sign of impending doom.

However it now appears things are gearing up again, with Variety reporting Christoph Waltz has entered negotiations to join the film, while TheWrap adds that Emma Stone is the top choice to play Jane.

They’d join the previously cast Alexander Skarsgard, who’s still attached to the title role. However it appears that while Warner wants Stone, she may turn down the movie due to her crowded schedule. Margot Robbie is the other main actress being eyed, who may be more free to take the role. Jessica Chastain was previously said to in the running, but it appears she’s no longer involved.

If he does sign up, Waltz would play a military type, but there’s no more info than that.

Despite the problems, it’s believed Tarzan is close to a greenlight, with plans to shoot next summer.

Harry Potter Helmer David Yates May Take On Scarface Reboot

August 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-YatesThanks to Harry Potter, David Yates has become one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood. However after making four Hogwarts movies in as many years, we haven’t had a movie from him since. He’s signed up for a lot of things, such as a new take on Tarzan, but nothing’s worked out.

Now Deadline reports that Yates in in final talks with Universal Pictures to direct the remake of Scarface that has been in development since September 2011.

Little is known about this fresh take on the story, although it will apparently be set in the modern day and follow the quest to attain the American Dream. David Ayer signed on to write the script in November 2011, which has since been rewritten by Paul Attanasio. Little has been heard about the movie cine them, but Universal has apparently been developing the script with a number of other writers since then.

An insider is quoted as saying,”Universal has been through a couple of drafts and now is very high on the current draft. The first stop is the director. This is before any conversations on talent or timing.”

Both the original 1932 Scarface, starring Paul Muni, and the 1983 Scarface remake starring Al Pacino, are considered classics, so the studio has big shoes to fill for this second remake.
