Two New Oblivion Posters Show Off Tom Cruise & Morgan Freeman

February 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oblivion-poster3
Oblivion is definitely one of the more intriguing sci-fi projects of the year. It’s not too long now until we get to see whether it’s any good or not, as the April 12th UK and April 19th US release is fast approaching.

To up the anticipation level EW has debuted two new posters for the film, showing Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman.

In a future where the surface of the Earth is ruined, Cruise plays a man who services the drones that ensure humanity can still get the natural resources it craves, even though it has had to abandon the surface and live in the sky. However he discovers that perhaps the way he believes this new world works is a lie, and as he investigates, he becomes a target himself.

Garrett Hedlund Says He’ll Be Back For Tron: Legacy Sequel

While most had thought Disney had given up on the idea of making a third Tron movie, last week it was revealed they’d hired Eragon writer Jesse Wigutow to rewrite the script and are still hoping to get the movie off the ground.

Now Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund has confirmed to NextMovie that he will star in the the third Tron film. While doing press for On the Road, he said, “Yeah, are we gonna break this now? Disney’s very excited. That’s about that. You know, yeah, I’m very excited, Disney’s very excited.”

Joseph Kosinski is still set to return to direct, with sources indicating that this sequel may start principal photography in 2014. While Tron: Legacy was seen by many as a disappointment, it did earn more than $400 million at the worldwide box office, suggesting a third film might well be worth making from Disney’s point of view.

Oblivion Trailer Lands – Tom Cruise takes on a ruined Earth

December 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just this morning we posted the first poster for Oblivion and said we’d heard that the first trailer was due on Sunday. However the promo has slipped out early, or at least a Spanish subtitled version has, which you can see right here.

In the movie the Earth is a ruined shell, with nearly all of the human population now living off the surface. Cruise plays a man who services the drones that ensure humanity can still get the natural resources it craves. However as we discover, some strange things are going on, including Morgan Freeman kidnapping him, some strange beasts and people in pods plummeting to earth. As he tries to figure out what’s happening, he becomes a target himself.

It all looks pretty stylish and the visuals are certainly impressive, with what seems like a well conceived look at a world that’s been trashed so much people can barely survive on the surface any more. Joseph Kosinski’s film hits cinemas next April.

Tom Cruise Eyes A Ruined New York In First Oblivion Poster

December 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Legacy may not have been as big a hit as he might have hoped, but Oblivion is intriguing and may benefit from arriving with less hype than his previous effort. Now the marketing has begun, with the first poster for the film (which you can see above) and the promise a trailer will arrive on Sunday.

Adapted from Kosinski’s own graphic novel, Tom Cruise stars as Jack Harper, one of the last men left on a ruined Earth, who repairs the drones tasked with retrieving vital resources from the planet. His whole world is turned upside down when he encounters a female pilot who crash lands on the planet, and they go on a journey of discovery that forces him to question everything he thinks he knows.

I’m not sure how you get a waterfall halfway up a skyscraper, but I’m sure the movie will explain it when it arrives next April.

Melissa Leo Enters Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion

March 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken a long time for Joseph Kosinski to get his follow-up to Tron: Legacy ready to shoot, but things have finally come together and filming recently began in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. However it appears the cast isn’t quite complete, as Deadline reports that Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo has just signed up.

The film is set on an Earth no longer inhabited by humans after the planet became too toxic to live on. Tom Cruise stars as a drone mechanic, one of the last men left on the planet, who discovers a woman (Andrea Riseborough) has crash landed on the surface. The man and woman go on a journey of discovery and learn they have not been told the truth about what happened on Earth.

It isn’t known what character Melissa Leo will play. Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also star. It’ll be in cinemas in 2013.

Morgan Freeman On For Joseph Kosinski’s Horizons

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s taken quite a while, but Joseph Kosinski is now pulling together the cast for his upcoming film Horizons (formerly known as Oblivion), with the latest to sign on, according to Deadline, being Morgan Freeman.

Horizons follows Tom Cruise’s central character, one of the last people on an uninhabitable Earth who repairs space ships and keeps an eye out for alien attacks. The man goes on a journey of discovery when a mysterious woman crash lands on the planet. Morgasn will apparently play Malcolm Beech, the leader of the human resistance on Earth.

Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough have been cast as the two female leads. It isn’t known when production will start on Horizons, but it’s believed to be relatively soon.

Kurylenko & Riseborough Join Joseph Kosinski Sci-Fi Movie

January 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago it appeared Jessica Chastain was set to star opposite Tom Cruise in Joseph Kosinki’s upcoming sci-fi flick, which was previously titled Oblivion (and for a brief time Horizons). Now she’s out and Variety reports that Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough are in.

The film follows a futuristic soldier called Jack, who’s one of the few people stationed on Earth after surface of the planet was destroyed by aliens. When he discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off a chain of events that cause him to question everything he knows.

It’s been previously reported that the two main female roles are Jack’s right-hand-man, Victoria, who acts as his eyes and ears on his repair mission, and Julia, who was his fiancee before the alien invasion. It isn’t clear which of those roles the actresses have signed up for.

Jessica Chastain had to pass on the role to pursue Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Osama bin Laden. It isn’t certainly when the film will shoot.

Beckinsale, Atwell, and Kruger Eyed for Horizons

October 27, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi flick, Horizons, already has Tom Cruise and Jessica Chastain attached to star, but according to Deadline, there is one more female lead role open, and actresses Kate Beckinsale, Hayley Atwell, and Diane Kruger are vying to land it.

The European actresses will all read for the role in Pittsburgh this weekend, where Tom Cruise is shooting One Shot (when you get to be as big as Tom Cruise, the world comes to you rather than the other way around). The role is a female pilot who crash lands on Earth, which is now only inhabited by drones after the planet became too toxic for humans. Tom Cruise plays one of the last men on Earth, a drone mechanic who discovers the wreckage and goes on a journey of discovery with the woman.

Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) will direct Horizons from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek, who rewrote William Monahan’s initial draft. The project is based on the graphic novel Joseph Kosinski co-created for Radical Publishing.
