Tim Blake Nelson In Talks For Fantastic Four

May 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tim-blake-nelsonTim Blake Nelson is joining the club of people who’ve played more than one character in superhero movies. After being Samuel Sterns (aka The Leader) in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, now THR reports that he’s in final talks to star as Harvey Elder in the The Fantastic Four reboot.

He joins Miles Teller as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara as his girlfriend Sue Storm (aka Invisible Woman), Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (aka The Thing), and Michael B. Jordan as Sue’s brother Johnny (aka The Human Torch). Toby Kebbell is set to be Dr. Doom.

In the comics Harvey Elder becomes the villainous Mole Man, but that won’t happen in this movie. Instead the reboot will set up the transformation ready for planned sequels, where he will play a more prominent role. Elder starts out as an eccentric and socially awkward scientist who is later shunned by humanity and becomes the leader of a subterranean group of monsters known as Moloids.

Josh Trank is set to direct with filming due to kick off fairly soon, ready for a summer 2015 release.

Toby Kebbell Will Be Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom

April 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

toby-kebbellIn the middle of March is was reported that Fox had whittled its list of potential Doctor Dooms for its Fantastic Four reboot to the likes of Domhnall Gleeson, Eddie Redmayne, Sam Riley and Toby Kebbell.

Now Variety reports that it’s Prince Of Persia and Wrath of the Titans’ Kebbell has bagged the role. He will join Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Josh Trank (Chronicle) is directing from a script by Simon Kinberg. The film is said to be closer to Marvel’s Ultimate Fantastic Four comic book series than the previous movie, which featured younger versions of the heroes.

The film is due to start shooting soon, with a June 19th, 2015 release date set.

Fantastic Four Cast Finally Revealed Including Miles Teller & Jamie Bell

February 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The casting rumours for the reboot of Fantastic Four have been going on for months, but now it seems things are coming to an end, as Variety reports that Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell are closing deals to star.

Assuming they all sign on the dotted line, Miles Teller will be Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara is Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Michael B. Jordan is taking on Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and Jamie Bell will tackle the role of Ben Grimm (The Thing).

There may be some issues sorting deals out though. For example Miles Teller is also signed up for the sci-fi sequel Insurgent, which is currently set to shoot at the same time as the superhero reboot. They may be able to sort out the scheduling, but if not Teller may have to be recast.

Josh Trank’s is directing with plans to start filming in Baton Rouge, Louisiana next month.

Kit Harington, Jack O’Connell & Miles Teller Test For Fantastic Four

October 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s believed that Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four is nearly at the point where it ready to shoot. While there have been casting rumours for months, it’s only now they’re properly started testing actors, starting with Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Sue Storm (The Invisible Girl).

Insiders told Variety that Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) are in line to get test for the Reed Richards role, while Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Kate Mara (Transcendence) and Margot Robbie (About Time) will try out for Sue Storm.

The studio is looking to go much younger with this rebooted version, in hopes of drawing in a new audience to reinvigorate the franchise (although it should be noted Reed Richards was in his 20s in the original comic, so despite the image of his as slightly older, they haven’t completely ditched the character’s origins).

For several months Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fruitvale Station) has been the favourite to play Johnny Storm (The Human Torch), although that may change. No actors have been mentioned in connection with either Ben Grimm (The Thing) or the villain yet.

Simon Kinberg was recently brought on to work on the script, providing a polish. Jeremy Slater, Michael Green, Seth Grahame-Smith and T.S. Nowlin have previously worked on the script. Josh Trank is directing the reboot, with shooting expected to begin in the next few months.

Simon Kinberg To Rewrite Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four Reboot

Chris Evans in Fantastic Four

Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four is slowly moving forward with the news that Simon Kinberg has been hired to rewrite the script, according to Variety. He joins a growing list, as Jeremy Slater, Michael Green, Seth Grahame-Smith and T.S. Nowlin have all worked on previous drafts.

However with reports that it’s pretty close to shooting, it’s likely Kinberg is only doing a polish, perhaps bringing it in line with Fox’s other superhero movies. He’s certainly well placed for that, having worked on X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Josh Trank will be directing the Fantastic Four remake, which is bringing the Marvel comics family a complete overhaul from the Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer from a few years ago. Created in 1961 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the group includes the scientist Mr. Fantastic, his wife the Invisible Girl, her brother the Human Torch and the Thing.

Is Miles Teller Up To Play Reed Richards In Fantastic Four?

August 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Miles-TellerFor quite a while now Fox has been planning to reboot the Fantastic Four with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank at the helm. However it’s only now that they’re starting to think about casting, and if TheWrap is to be believed, Miles Teller is one of the actors in-contention for the role of Mr. Fantastic, aka Reed Richards.

Previous rumours have suggested Michael B. Jordan is being considered for Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, and Girls’ Allison Williams may end up as Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman. However there’s been no confirmation on any of these names.

While 26-year-old Footloose and 21 & Over actor Miles Teller may seem young compared to many people’s idea of Reed Richards as a slightly older man, in the comics he was indeed in his mid-20s when he, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm went on a scientific mission into space that resulted in their ship getting hit by cosmic rays and each of them gaining superpowers.

At the moment it’s difficult to know whether any of these actors will end up in the movie. Indeed it’s not even clear when the movie might shoot, but it does seem we might find out who the main cast will be soon.

Girls Star Allison Williams Eyed For Fantastic Four & Takes The Lead In Rosaline

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

alison-williamsAllison Williams has never been in a movie, but thanks to the success of TV’s Girls, she’s going to be able to make up for lost time, as Deadline reports that she is now the front runner for a role in the planned Fantastic Four reboot. No details were given, but it seems likely that she is in contention to play Sue Storm, aka. The Invisible Girl.

There is a note of caution though, as the film is still at an early stage, so the producers may change their mind about Williams, but she’s at the front of the pack at the moment.

Even if she doesn’t get that role, she’ll still be able to make her feature debut, as she has signed on to take the lead role in Rosaline for 20th Century Fox and producer Shawn Levy. Lily Collins and Deborah Ann Woll were previously attached to the film, but it seems they’ve moved on from the movie. Dave Franco is also set to star.

The story is adapted from Rebecca Serle’s novel, which tells a revisionist parallel tale to Romeo & Juliet. Rosaline doesn’t actually appear in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, but she is mentioned as the girl Romeo dated before he took up with Juliet. The new modern-day take tells the story through Rosaline’s eyes, as she watches the two doomed lovers enter into a suicide pact.

Fantastic Four comes to is currently set for release on March 6th, 2015, with Josh Trank directing. There’s no news on when we might see Rosaline.

Seth Grahame-Smith Rewriting Fantastic Four Reboot

February 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seth-grahame-smithWhile neither Dark Shadows nor Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter performed to expectations last year, Hollywood still loves writer Seth Grahame-Smith, and so Fox has asked him to come on-board their Fantastic Four reboot in order to polish the most recent script, written by Jeremy Slater, according to THR.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four comic books debuted in 1961, featuring Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (The Invisible Girl), her brother Johnny Storm (The Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing), all of whom gain superpowers after being exposed to radiation during a space mission.

While the recent movies took a very popcorn, silly approach (which some liked but many didn’t), the new rendition, to be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), is said to have a more grounded, sci-fi approach that taps deeper into the comic book’s well of villains.

It isn’t known when it might shoot, with rumours suggesting it may be a while yet, with Fox wanting to make sure all the pieces are perfect before they go into production (not to mention they already have two X-Men movies lined up for release in the next 18 months).

Matthew Vaughn Producing Fantastic Four Reboot

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matthew-vaughn4Matthew Vaughn may have stepped out of the director’s chair of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but he’s sticking with Fox’s Marvel superhero movies, by signing up to produce the planned reboot of Fantastic Four, which Josh Trank is due to direct.

Mark Millar, who’s overseeing all of Fox’s Marvel-based movies, tweeted the news, saying “Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news – Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”

The film is a fairly long way from the screen though, with Fox not planning to get it into cinemas until spring 2015. They do have big plans though, with Millar saying a couple of months ago that the project will reinvent the superhero genre, with an approach we have never seen before – although he didn’t say quite what that meant.

Josh Trank Confirmed For Fantastic Four

July 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Several months ago it was rumoured that 20th Century Fox was in talks with Chornicle helmer Josh Trank for its planned reboot of Fantastic Four, but it’s only now that the studio has confirmed Trank has indeed signed up to helm the movie.

The idea is to give Fantastic Four a completely new tone and feel compared to their most recent film adventures, presumably taking them in the grittier direction of many recent superhero movies. Fox hopes to begin production on Fantastic Four after shooting wraps on two more superhero projects, The Wolverine and the X-Men: First Class Sequel.

In related yet opposite news, director David Slade has dropped out of the Fox’s Daredevil reboot. The studio is said to be keen on the screenplay, most recently worked on by David James Kelly, but the director couldn’t fit it into his schedule, due to his commitment to direct the Hannibal pilot. Fox has to get production started this fall, or they risk the rights reverting back to Marvel Studios. (Source: Deadline)
