Noomi Rapace Up For Enzo Ferrari Biopic, Opposite Christian Bale

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noomi-rapaceA couple of months ago news emerged that Christian Bale had signed on to play the central role in a biopic of Enzo Ferrari that director Michael Mann has been planning for many years.

Now THR adds that Noomi Rapace is in talks to star, with Paramount picking up the project to fund it.

The film apparently concentrates on a single year, 1957. That year is particularly significant for the Italian car-maker, as it was when Ferrari driver, Alfonso de Portago, was killed during the Mille Miglia race. The driver and nine spectators died when a tire blew out and his car careened into the roadside crowd.

It caused a major crisis for Ferrari that could have destroyed the company, especially as Enzo was charged with manslaughter over the event. Rapace would play Farrari’s wife, Laura Dominica.

Christian Bale Up For Enzo Ferrari Biopic

August 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Christian-BaleChristian Bale may be living out his fast car dreams soon as Deadline reports that he’s set to reteam with his Public Enemies director, Michael Mann, for a film based on Brock Yates‘ 1991 book, Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races.

Mann has apparently been working on the movie for 15 years, which ‘takes place in 1957, a year where passion, failure, success and death and life all collided’. That year is particularly significant for the Italian car-maker, as it was when Ferrari driver, Alfonso de Portago, was killed during the Mille Miglia race. The driver and nine spectators died when a tire blew out and his car careened into the roadside crowd.

It was a time when the rise of Enzo’s company was tempered because he was charged with manslaughter over the event.

It’s not clear when it will shoot, but it appear Mann is now on the lookout for the female lead.

April 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Viola-DavisViola Davis scored a big hit with The Help, but we haven’t seen too much of her since then, especially as her recent movie, Beautiful Creatures, bombed at the box office. Later this year we’ll see her in The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby, Ender’s Game and Prisoners. Now she’s lined up another film, as Deadline reports that she’s set to star in Michael Mann’s currently untitled new thriller.

Michael Mann To Direct The Big Stone Grid

February 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While he’s brought Luck to TV and produced his daughter’s directorial debut, Texas Killing Fields, we haven’t had a new movie from Michael Mann since 2009’s Public Enemies. Now he’s added a possible new flick – although probably not his next – to his list, as Columbia Pictures has brought on Mann to direct The Big Stone Grid, a project which was first set up by the studio last March.

The movie revolves around two New York City detectives, who uncover an extortion ring operating throughout the city’s criminal underbelly. S. Craig Zahler wrote the screenplay, which is said to be in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man, although it is said that Michael Mann will take a crack at the script alongside the writer. There is also talk that Michael Mann may relocate the story to Los Angeles, although that has not been confirmed.

Mann will likely direct Go Like Hell for 20th Century Fox next, a project we last heard about in May, which is about a the race car rivalry between Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s. The Big Stone Grid is getting lined up for sometime after that. (Source: Deadline)
