Will Channing Tatum Star In A Gay Rom-Com From Bridesmaids Director Paul Feig?

October 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This is one of those comments a director makes that may be getting taken out of context and turned into something that sounds far more likely to happen than is actually is, but Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig has suggested he’s planning to make a gay romantic comedy with Channing Tatum and SNL’s John Milhiser set to star.

Milhiser will play a normal guy who starts dating someone who’s as crazily hot as Tatum. That might sound great, but the average Joe finds is hard to cope. The movie was apparently originally written for a heterosexual couple, with Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm attached to star at one point, however things have since changed.

Before you get too full-on excited about Tatum finally getting gay, Cinema Blend, who broke the story not that the actor’s reps have ’emphasized that Feig’s enthusiasm does not mean anything is actually happening yet’. So at the moment it’s just a possibility.

It would be great to see a mainstream project with well known names involved, where the characters just happened to be gay, rather than it having to be one of the main points of the movie. After all, why not?

At the moment though we’ll have to wait and see if it becomes a reality.

Melissa McCarthy In Talks For Paul Feig’s Spy Film Susan Cooper

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa-McCarthyMelissa McCarthy broke out with Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids and the actress and director recently reunited for The Heat. Now McCarthy is sticking with the director as TheWrap reports that she’s in talks to take one of the lead roles in Feig’s Susan Cooper.

The film is described as a James Bond-inspired spy comedy, but with a female lead. While Feig is known for broad comedy, Susan Cooper isn’t a parody, but is instead said to be a gritty and realistic comedy, which is heavily influenced by Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale.

The film is said to centre on two lead characters, although there’s no news on whether McCarthy is in talks to play the title character or if she’ll be the other lead.

The film is being set up as a potential franchise, so this could work out well for the actress. The one thing standing in the way at the moment is her schedule, as she’s soon due to go back into production on her sitcom, Mike & Molly. Hopefully she’ll be able to sort it out though.

Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig Takes On Spy Comedy Susan Cooper

June 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-feigPaul Feig has worked as an actor, created Freaks & Geeks and directed the likes of I Am David, but his helming career went to another level when he made Bridesmaids. This summer he’s got the Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy starrer The Heat coming to cinemas, but he’s already looking to the future, as TheWrap reports that he’s set to write, direct and produce Susan Cooper.

It’s described as a James Bond-inspired spy comedy, but with a female lead. While Feig is known for broad comedy, Susan Cooper isn’t a parody, but is instead said to be a gritty and realistic comedy. Indeed its suggested that it’s been heavily influenced by Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale.

The film is said to centre on two lead characters – which is somewhat unexpected given the title – and is being set up as a potential franchise. 20th Century Fox, which worked with the filmmaker also backed, is onboard for this one.

The Heat Red Band Trailer – Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy turn mismatched cops

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Melissa McCarthy could be having a good 2013, as Identity Thief and The Heat look like they could be a lot of fun. Now a new red band trailer has arrived, giving us a slightly ruder look at the movie.

The film reunites McCarthy with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig. Here’s the synopsis, ‘Uptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence – and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.’s “finest,” is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse, and uses her gut instinct and street smarts to catch the most elusive criminals. Neither has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. When these two wildly incompatible law officers join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.’

It’ll hit UK cinemas on April 5th.

The Heat Trailer – Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy go buddy cop

November 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’d imagine Melissa McCarthy is ruing the day she signed on for the sitcom Mike & Molly. At the time it must have seemed like one of the few chances she’d get to take to lead in her own show, but now she’s broken out in Hollywood and is trapped in one of the worst shows on TV (but hey, perhaps she likes it). However she’s squeezing in as many movies as she can, including The Heat, where she teams up with Sandra Bullock for a buddy cop film.

It doesn’t exactly sounds like this will be breaking the rulebook on the buddy cop formula, but as long as it’s well made it could be fun. It hits cinemas next spring.

Bridesmaids Helmer Paul Feig Takes Up The Wish List

April 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Feig had a huge hit directing Bridesmaids, but while he’s attached himself to a few films he’s taken his time deciding what to make next. However it appears he’s now made up his mind as THR reports he’s signed up to helm of Disney’s Wish List, which is likely to be his next movie.

Reese Witherspoon signed up to star in the film a few months ago, and will play an ambitious career woman who lost her inner child when she was young due to ten wishes never coming true. It turns out that the coin upon which she wished got stuck in the wishing well and never reached the bottom. When the coin suddenly becomes dislodged and floats to the bottom of the pool, the 30-year-old uptight professional must deal with all ten childhood wishes coming true, all at the same time.

Wish List was originally written for a male lead, but is being retooled for Witherspoon. Kung Fu Panda 2 scribes Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel are behind the screenplay. Feig will shoot the movie later this year.

Colin Firth Is Untouchable For Director Paul Feig

March 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears Bridesmaids director Paul Feig wants to head in a slightly different direction, with a movie that has space for some humour but also has the potential for plenty of Oscar-bait emotion. Variety reports he’s attached to write and direct Untouchable, The Weinstein Company’s planned remake of Eric Toledano and Oliver Nakache’s French hit The Intouchables, with Colin Firth attached to star.

Based on a true story, as recounted in Philippe Pozzo di Borgo’s heartwarming memoir Le Second Souffle, Untouchable is about an affluent aristocrat whose adventurous life changes dramatically following a crippling paragliding accident. Now quadriplegic and deeply depressed, he unleashes his frustration upon a string of caretakers until he meets one – a fiery Algerian immigrant – who refuses to suffer such abuse. Before long, these two stubborn and lonely men become unlikely friends.

Firth is in early talks to play the crippled man, so it’s not quite a done deal yet. It’s not clear when the movie will shoot,

Paul Feig Directing The Better Woman

January 10, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

While there’s still uncertainty over whether a sequel to Bridesmaids will ever happen (Universal wants one, Kristen Wiig doesn’t, and Melissa McCarthy won’t do it without Wiig), the director of the 2011 hit, Paul Feig, is reuniting with Universal for the comedy project The Better Woman, according to Variety.

Amy Sherman (Gilmore Girls) is writing the script, which is about a successful young executive who gets dumped by her boyfriend for an older woman. She becomes friends with the older lady to find out why her boyfriend left her, and reinvents herself along the way. Reese Witherspoon was previously circling the project, but the actress is no longer involved.

Paul Feig is still loosely circling the planned Bridesmaids, but it is said he is “hesitant to commit” to the sequel since writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are working on other projects and unless the studio can woo them, seem determined not to return.

We May Get Bridesmaid 2 Without Kristen Wiig

January 5, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After Bridesmaids became one of Universal’s few recent major hits, it’s unsurprising the studio has wanted some more. However there’s been a bit of a roadblock, as the film’s star and co-writer, Kristen Wiig, is said to be against a follow-up.

However now THR reports that Universal is thinking of making a follow-up with Wiig’s involvement. The actress/writer tolf THR that “We aren’t working on that. Annie [Mumolo] and I aren’t planning a sequel. We are writing something else.” However that isn’t stopping the studio, which has sequel rights irrespective of Wiig’s wishes.

It isn’t known why Kristen Wiig doesn’t want to return, although an insider claims that the actress and other key cast members may have been offended by their $100,000 bonuses, which is seen as low due to the overwhelming success of the comedy.

Universal is still trying to move forward with Bridesmaids 2, which may focus on Melissa McCarthy’s character. An unnamed source at the studio commented,  “We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right. We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we’ll move forward.”

It isn’t known if director Paul Feig will return for the sequel, but, at any rate, it seems there may be quite a long wait for Bridesmaids 2, no matter who stars in this sequel. And don’t count Wiig out, as her thinking about a sequel may change.
