Karen Gillan Has A Valley Of Violence Opposite Ethan Hawke & John Travolta

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Karen-GillanKaren Gillan’s film assault is picking up this year with Oculus, Guardians Of The Galaxy and The List. Now she’s booked another role as Deadline reports that she’s signed up for A Valley Of Violence.

Ethan Hawke, John Travolta, and Taissa Farmiga are already set for the movie, which will see Gillan as ‘Ellen, the older sister to Farmiga’s character. Together they run a hotel in the town where Hawke’s drifter seeks vengeance for the death of his best friend’

Ti West is directing the movie, marking a step towards the mainstream for the helmer of House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers. It should start shooing in late June.

Ti West Takes On The Sacrament For Producer Eli Roth

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ti West has garnered a bit of a horror fanbase thanks to Cabin Fever 2, The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers (although West disowned Cabin Fever 2, due to the lack of control he had over it). Now he’s teaming up with the director of the original Cabin Fever, Eli Roth, for The Sacrament, according to Variety.

Roth will produce the movie with West down to direct. Unfortunately though, there’s no info on the plot or the cast, but the plan is to shoot it in Georgia later this year.

While West’s movies have found relatively small scale success, it seems this movie is being geared for a bigger audience, with Roth saying, ‘We want to make this Ti’s first mainstream movie, without sacrificing the quality and unflinching horror of the subject matter.’

The Innkeepers (DVD)

June 22, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Kelly McGillis
Director: Ti West
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: June 25th, 2012

When you look at the poster for The Innkeepers and read the quotes from the likes of Eli Roth and Total Film, you’d expect a nail-biting ghost/horror story. What we get is an initially slow-moving film that eventually juggernauts at full pace towards an unsatisfying climax.

I’m not really sure of the difference now between a ghost story and a horror story, as the genres seem to have merged, but the results usually include ghosts stuck in different dimensions in some sort of limbo, scaring humans, which either results in the spirit being laid to rest, or the humans meeting an untimely grizzly death. Perhaps after the spate of Gorn (Gore and porn) and ‘found footage’ movies over the past ten years (e.g. Saw, Hostel, Paranormal Activity), the film industry is starting to realise we might be getting desensitized. Liv Tyler Takes On The Side Effect

January 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Ti West has got quite a reputation for himself in horror circles for the likes of The Innkeepers and The House Of The Devil, but he’s going slightly sci-fi for his next effort, The Side Effect. Now Deadline reports that Actress Liv Tyler has signed on to star in the movie.

The film centres on Tyler’s character, Catherine Rigby, who spends several months alone in space, to test a pharmaceutical company’s new drugs. When the woman somehow becomes pregnant, paranoia sets in as Catherine begins to think she may be stranded in space.

Here’s what Ti West had to say about bringing Liv Tyler on board, “Although it is still somewhat of a horror film, it is much more psychological than any of my previous efforts. It was essential that I find an actress who could portray a wide range of emotion and always earn the audience’s sympathy no matter what the situation. As soon as I sat down with Liv, it was obvious she was the one.”

It isn’t known when the film will shoot.

The Innkeepers Trailer

October 31, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ti West marked himself out as a horror director to look out for with The House Of The Devil and Cabin Fever 2 and now he’s returning with The Innkeepers. In the film, after over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees – Claire and Luke – are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.
