Due to the nature of stop motion animation, it’s taken ages to get from the start of production to the point where a trailer has been released, but the promo for Tim Burton’s autumn treat, Frankenweenie, is now here and look like a whole load of gothic family fun. Here’s the synopsis, ‘From creative genius Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes Frankenweenie, a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.’ The film’s due out October 5th, but take a look at the very charming trailer.

Eva Green Stares Down Johnny Depp In New Dark Shadows Image
Dark Shadows arrives in cinemas in May, and while we wait for a trailer, the images we’ve seen have certainly been intriguing. The latest above is from Luces Camara Blog, and shows a blonde Eva Green staring down a very pale Johnny Depp.
Green plays witch Angelique Bouchard who has a long history with Depp’s vampire, Barnabas Collins.
If you’ve been wondering what sort of tone the Tim Burton movie, which is based on a 1960s US supernatural soap opera, will have, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith has been talking to Badass Digest and told then, “The tone of the movie is soap operatic. It’s heightened. Everything is heightened and grand. Johnny is just dug in and big. [Starts hamming it up] ‘Didn’t you see? How… could you? My god, woman!’ There’s an absurdist element to it. It’s very funny. I don’t think people are expecting it to be as funny as it is.”
Here’s the lengthy official synopsis: ‘In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.
‘Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.
‘Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.’
Best Look Yet At Johnny Depp In Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows
With Dark Shadows due out in May, the hype machine is gradually building up, in the hope that it’ll be a big breakout hit. Now a new image has arrived, giving us our best look yet at Johnny Depp’s vampiric Barnabas Collins.

Tim Burton May Return To Direct Beetlejuice 2
Back in October, Beetlejuice 2 screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith said that he had the blessing of original Beetlejuice director Tim Burton for his planned sequel, but we didn’t whether that meant Burton was being active or passive in the process. Now MTV reports that Burton is involved enough that he may come back to direct Beetlejuice 2.
The filmmaker says, “Yes. I love that character, and Michael (Keaton) is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to (writer) Seth (Grahame-Smith), ‘If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I’ll look at it freshly.’ In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it. I told him to try some stuff, but he hasn’t come back to me yet. Michael was so great in it. I’m sure he’d strangely tap right back into it.”
Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg came on board to write Beetlejuice 2 back in September. The project is still in early stages of development, but the prospect of getting Tim Burton and Michael Keaton to reunite for the sequel is quite intriguing – we’re still quite a long way from that happening though.
New Pic From Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows
It’s only a few months until Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows arrives in cinemas on May 11th, and so far there hasn’t been much hype for the movie, barring a single image released a couple of months ago. However with the new year comes a new picture, via EW, featuring Johnny Depp looking impossibly young (he is playing an immortal vampire, after all) alongside Michelle Pfeiffer.
Here’s the synopsis of the film, which is based on a 1960s supernatural US soap opera: ‘In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. First Look At The Three Stooges
The first pics from both the Farrelly brothers’ The Three Stooges and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie had popped up online. You can see the Stooges one above, via USA Today, which is the first image we’ve had of Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, Sean Hayes as Larry, and Will Sasso as Curly that we’ve had where they aren’t in silhouette. The guys certainly look the part, and we’ll be able to see if they can pull off the Stooge magic next April.
Below you can see the first shots and a behind-the-scene image from Frankenweenie, Tim Burton’s feature length stop-motion version of his 1984 short. It’s been in the works for year, and as stop-motion takes so long still won’t be in cinemas until October 2012, but you can see the first official pics here (via EW).
