Although there’s still the possibility it’ll be a horrible mess, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is definitely one of this summer’s most intriguing flick. The trailers we’ve had certainly look cool! Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter reimagines the American president as an axe-wielding, highly trained vampire hunter. Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, on which the movie will be based, gives new context to Lincoln’s rise to the presidency as well as the American Civil War (which was fought because the vampires were in league with the slave owners), suggesting these events were a lot more paranormal than history tells us, and stemmed from Lincoln’s mother’s murder by a vampire when he was a child. The film hits UK cinemas August 2nd.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Red Band Trailer
It’s still a toss up whether it’ll be great or a complete mess, but Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is intensely intriguing and the trailers certainly look cool. That’s true of this new red-band effort, which brings the violence to the fore. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Featurette – Origins Of A Superhero
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and now a new featurette has emerged, which treats the US President’s story as if in real-life he really was battling bloodsuckers and was essentially ‘the Batman of the 19th Century’. There’s also plenty of great footage from the film, which arrives in cinemas on August 2nd. The film reimagines Lincoln as a man driven by an insatiable hatred of the vampires who killed his mother and whose rise to the top on the US was all about battling the supernatural.
Timur Bekmambetov Takes On The Current War
You wouldn’t think the difficulties deciding whether we use AC or DC eletrical current would be worth making a movie about, but in American it was actually an incredibly bitter war between Westinghouse and Edison, with both realising the potential dividends of having their system adopted throughout the US were so huge they’d do anything to ensure they won.
Now Variety reports that Timur Bekmambetov has just attached himself to direct The Current War, which is about the fight between the companies, based on Michael Mitnick‘s spec script. It really was a bitter battle, full of public fighting and increasingly extreme stunts. For example Edison once used Westinghouse’s current to execute a rogue elephant in the hope he could prove how dangerous it was (he was admittedly safer), and even tried to get people to refer to being electrocuted as being ‘Westinghoused’.
There is no cast attached yet, though Sacha Baron Cohen was reportedly interested in playing Edison at one point. It isn’t clear whe the movie might shoot.
Timur Bekmambetov Snaps Up Max Landis’ Woogles
Thanks to Chronicle, Max Landis is just about the most popular young writer around at the moment – he can sneeze and someone will snap up what comes out. Variety reports that his latest sale is to Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambetov and his Bazelevs production company, who’ve picked up Max’s pitch, Woogles.
Don’t be shocked if the name changes at some point, although it’s difficult to know what to, as there’s pecious little info on the plot, other than it’s be an edgy family adventure. It will be filled with special effects though, as one of the attractions for Bekmambetov was the ability to use his own Bazelevs CG team.
Landis won’t be writing this one himself (he’s sold so many ideas around Hollywood, he simply doesn’t have the time), but he came up with the original story and has now handed the actual scripting to MTV’s Teen Wolf veterans, Nick Antosca and Ned Vizzini. The film will be Lanids’ producing debut though.
“We are very excited to bring Max, Nick, and Ned’s vision to life,” Bekmambetov says. “Bazelevs considers itself a place for great, young talent to grow, and we look forward to working with this team.”
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer
With its teaser trailer, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turned from a movie that looked like it might be kinda fun to something far more exciting, and that continues with this new full trailer, which shows the famed American President (played by relative movie newcomer Benjamin Walker) kicking supernatural ass in Timur Bekmambetov’s movie. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Teaser Trailer Arrives
I think it’s fair to say the assumption has been that Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter would just be a little bit of fluffy, mid-scale summer fun, but now the first teaser trailer is here and it shows the film may be a bit more epic than anyone expected. But then, as Bekmambetov owns his own effects studio, it’s perhaps not surprising it looks pretty spectacular.

New Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Pics Debut
I’m really interested to see a trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as it’ll give us our first taste of whether it’s a concept that works on the big screen or not. It certainly sounds fun, but could just come across as ridiculous.
Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter reimagines the American president as an axe-wielding, highly trained vampire hunter. It’s due out in the UK on August 2nd, but for now we’ve got some new images, courtesy of EW. Take a look at them above and below.
Bekmambetov Planning Lunar Boy
Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov’s next movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, doesn’t arrive in cinemas until August, but it seems he’s already looking ahead to what he might want to make after that, as Variety reports that he has picked up the rights to Stephen Tunney’s 2010 novel, One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy.
The unusual storyline is set two thousand years in the future, when Mankind has abandoned plan to terraform on the Moon, leaving it and its colonists to their own fate. One of the inhabitants is Hieronymous Rexaphin, who developed a condition that allows him to see a fourth primary colour, which somehow means he can also see the future of all time and matter. If that weren’t enough to be dealing with he also has to wear goggles, because looking into his eyes kills people, which causes problems when he falls in love with an Earth-girl called Windows Falling On Sparrows. Together the pair must go on the run to avoid incarceration on the dark side of the moon.
It’s the sort of story that has the potential for an inventive and idiosycratic movie, but which could easily end up looking silly and ill-though out. Edward Ricourt (the upcoming Now You See Me) is the man charged with trying to turn the book into a workable screenplay. Good luck to him as it’s going to be a tough job.
