For quite a few years now, Disney has been developing a movie based around Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. However, it’s had a few problems, not least David Fincher spending ages putting it together but then leaving due to budget disagreements.
Now it’s coming back together with Wolverine’s James Mangold set to direct, according to THR.
The movie will be a loose adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is currently going under the title Captain Nemo. Beyond that, there’s not too much news on exactly what direction the film will take on the story of Captain Nemo and his incredible submarine, the Nautilus.
It’s not likely we’ll see the movie for a while though, as Mangold is currently developing another Wolverine movies, which will almost certainly come before Nemo.
For quite a while it looked like we were going to get a David Fincher version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but unfortunately the movie he was developing with Disney fell apart of budget and creative differences.
For a couple of years David Fincher has been hoping to remake 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for Disney, but there have been a few problems with getting a greenlight – not least the fact that the failure of John Carter has made the studio a little shy of massive budget movies not based on superheroes.
