Alice Through The Looking Glass Posters Emerge

August 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alice-through-poster2Even Disney was surprised when its Tim Burton directed, live-action version of Alice In Wonderland broke a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. The studio quickly started thinking about a sequel, but it’s only now that it’s moving towards release – with Muppet Movie helmer James Bobin stepping in for Burton.

A couple of posters have now arrived for the movie, featuring the return of Mia Wasikowska’s Alice and Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter.

Indeed, most of the original cast is returning, including Anne Hathaway, Helen Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry. The biggest edition is Sacha Baron Cohen as the evil Lord Of Time, who has a plan to turn Wonderland into a barren waste, which only Alice can stop.

The film is due out May 2016.

Rhys Ifans Joins Alice in Wonderland 2 As Johnny Depp’s Dad

May 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rhys-IfansLast month is was revealed that acclaimed stage actor Mark Rylance was in negotiations to play the Mad Hatter’s father in the Alice in Wonderland sequel Through the Looking Glass. However a deal was never reached, so instead Rhys Ifans is being brought in for the role, according to TheWrap.

Ifans is actually four years younger than Depp, but with plenty of makeup, he will be Zanik Hightopp, who’s described as having brightly-coloured hair like his son, which cannot be contained under a top hat.

Johnny Depp is set to return as The Mad Hatter,  with Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen. Sacha Baron Cohen is a new cast member, playing a villain named Time.

James Bobin (Muppets Most Wanted) is directing from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent), with Joe Roth producing. The movie should shoot this summer with a May 27, 2016 release date set.

Mark Rylance Is Going Through The Looking Glass As Johnny Depp’s Dad

April 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-rylanceMark Rylance is undoubtedly considered one of the best stage actors currently working in Britain, winning Oliviers, Tonys and a BAFTA TV award. However he hasn’t been seen in that many movies considering his stature, and there have been even fewer big Hollywood movies.

That’s about the change though as Variety reports that he’s signed up for Through the Looking Glass, Disney’s sequel to Alice In Wonderland.

He joins returning cast members Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska, as well as newcomer Sacha Baron Cohen. So what character is Rylance playing? Well, he’s due to be the Mad Hatter’s father – despite the fact he’s only four years older than Johnny Depp.

It’s not know how Hatter Sr. will fit into the movie, as plot details are being kept under wraps. The hope is to shoot this summer with James Bobin directing.

Helena Bonham Carter Coming Back For Alice in Wonderland 2

March 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alice-In-Wonderland-Pic2Disney’s planned sequel to Alice In Wonderland is finally coming together. Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are already set to return, with Sacha Baron Cohen also joining the team. Now another returnee has signed up as Helena Bonham Carter is coming back for Through the Looking Glass, according to Variety.

James Bobin, who’s hitting cinemas imminently with Muppets Most Wanted, will direct, with Joe Roth returning to produce. No details have been released about the plot, although like Tim Burton’s movie, it’s not likely to closely Lewis Carroll’s original story and will instead follow Alice long after her first trips to Wonderland.

The first movie grossed over a billion dollars, so it’s no surprise Disney wants a sequel, even if it has taken them quite a long time to get it off the ground. The film should shoot later this year.

Sacha Baron Cohen In Talks For Alice in Wonderland 2

January 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sacha-baron-cohen-brunoIt’s not too surprising that Disney’s planned sequel to Alice In Wonderland is now going by the title Through The Looking Glass, as while Tim Burton’s movie was technically a sequel to Lewis Carroll’s original tale, Look Glass was what the author’s follow-up was called.

Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are already set to reprise their roles of The Mad Hatter and Alice from the 2010 blockbuster Alice in Wonderland. Now Variety reports that Sacha Baron Cohen is in early negotiations to play the villain in the movie. Unfortunately though it’s now known exactly who the character will be.

James Bobin is directing from a screenplay by Alice in Wonderland writer Linda Woolverton. It’s due out May 2016.

Johnny Depp & Mia Wasikowska Confirmed For Alice In Wonderland 2

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alice-in-wonderland-poster1After the billion dollar grossing success of Alice In Wonderland, it’s taken Disney a while to get a sequel going. Now they’ve kicked into high gear with the news that Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska have been confirmed to star in the movie, and a May 27, 2016 release date has been set for Alice in Wonderland 2.

Disney has also set its live-action version of The Jungle Book for October 9, 2015.

While Alice in Wonderland was released in early March 2010, the follow-up is being given a prime Memorial Day weekend release. At the moment it doesn’t have any direct competition, although that’s likely to change as the other studios firm up with 2016 release schedule.

Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska are slated to reprise their roles as The Mad Hatter and Alice, although no other cast members have been confirmed. James Bobin is directing from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, although it isn’t clear when production will begin.

Johnny Depp Likely To Come Back For Alice In Wonderland 2

July 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Johnny-DeppWith the failure of The Lone Ranger at the US box office, you might think Disney would be shying away from being in the Johnny Depp business, but they obviously still love him, as it’s been revealed that the star’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, is moving to the House Of Mouse, and he’s close to signing a deal to return as the Mad Hatter in the planned Alice In Wonderland 2, according to Deadline.

Back in May, James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted) signed up to direct the movie from a screenplay by Alice in Wonderland writer Linda Woolverton. Although it’s believed that it’s currently titled Through the Looking Glass, no official title has been confirmed.

While studios normally try to get sequels out as quickly as possible, this one has taken a while to get going. However, as Alice in Wonderland broke the $1 billion barrier at the box office during its theatrical run in 2010, you can understand why they want a follow-up.

Mia Wasikowska will likely return as Alice, but it is not known if other Alice in Wonderland stars such as Helena Bonham Carter or Anne Hathaway will be back. There’s no news on when it might shoot, but with Bobin busy on Muppets Most Wanted, it’s unlikely it’ll be before early next year.
