I really liked 2009’s Shank, as while it was a bit rough around the edges, it felt like a really different kind of coming out story, following young Cal (Wayne Virgo), who grew up in the most deprived areas of Bristol. Hanging around a group of rough friends and getting involved in muggings and other criminal activity, he also has to deal with the fact he’s gay. While not perfect, 2009’s Shank was a hard-hitting and incredibly involving look at being young and gay on the streets of a big city. Now a follow-up has been filmed, following the story of lead character Cal (Wayne Virgo). He’s back at home, facing his troubled past and seeing student Jason, while the city disintegrates around them, with law and order dissolving and the angry youth ready to riot.
