After success with the likes of Con Air and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, director Simon West disappeared off the radar for several years, but he’s returned recently with The Mechanic and is currently shooting The Expendables 2. Now he seems to have found his next movie, as THR reports he is now in negotiations to direct the car racing movie Dust and Glory.
Based on a novel by Evan Green, the independent, romantic action-adventure project is set during the 1950s’ Redex trials, which covered more than 10,000 miles of some of the toughest racing terrain in Australia. Described as being a cross between Mad Max and The Jewel of the Nile, the Robert Lewis Galinsky-written script follows the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.
Production is being eyed for a summer start in Australia, with casting beginning in the next few weeks.
