Parkland Trailer – Zac Efron works on a shot JFK

August 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination coming up in November, it’s little surprise a movie like Parkland is due out soon, which focusses on the hospital the President was taken to after he was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald (and where Oswald went when he was killed). Now the first trailer for the movie is here.

Billy Bob Thornton plays the head of Dallas’ Secret Service in the film, with Paul Giamatti as Abraham Zapruder, the man who took some infamous footage of the assassination (which many will remember from JFK). Marcia Gay Harden is the head nurse at the hospital, with Zac Efron as a rookie doctor who has to work on the President. Jeremy Strong plays Lee Harvey Oswald.

The movie’s US release has just been moved to early October, with a November 8th UK release currently set. [Read more…]

Jackie Earle Haley, James Badge Dale & Colin Hanks Join Parkland

James-Badge-DaleAn impressive cast is lining up for the ensemble drama Parkland, likely attracted to being part of something that will help commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK this November. Shooting on the movie has just started, and it’s been announced that the likes of James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, David Harbour, and Ron Livingston have all joined the cast.

They’ll star alongside the previously announced Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Marcia Gay Harden, Zac Efron, and Jeremy Strong.

The film is about the chaotic events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, November 22nd 1963. Part thriller, part real-time drama, Parkland the story of unexceptional people fighting for survival and reaching for heroism in an exceptional time.

Parkland certainly has a place in American history, as it’s also where both JFK’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby, died.

Award-winning journalist and novelist Peter Landesman makes his directorial debut with the movie, working from his own screenplay, which is based on the book, Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, by Vincent Bugliosi. The hope is to release the movie in time for the 50th anniversary.

Jeremy Strong Heads For Parkland As Lee Harvey Oswald

January 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jeremy-StrongJeremy Strong had a pretty good 2012, scoring roles in Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty as well as the upcoming Robot & Frank. He’s continuing that run by booking a part as one of history’s most infamous killers, JFK’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, according to Variety.

Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Zac Efron and Marcia Gay Harden are already set for the movie, which is based on the book Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi. The screenplay comes from Peter Landesman, who will also make make his directorial debut with Parkland.

The film recounts the dramatic true story of the chaotic events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd 1963. JFK was taken to the hospital, where they worked on him for some time, hoping to save his life, even though it was hopeless.

The film will presumably also look at the assassination itself, as Lee Harvey Oswald didn’t get to Parkland that day. He had to wait to go to the same hospital until November 24th, when he was shot by Jack Ruby. He died at Parkland during surgery (Ruby also died at the hospital four years later).

The film, to be shot in Austin, Texas is destined for a 2013 US theatrical release around the 50th anniversary of the assassination.
