A few weeks ago, Lily Collins bagged the lead role in the remake of The Evil Deal, however she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the role empty with only a few weeks until shooting is due to commence. Now director Federico Alvarez has closed the hole, casting actress Jane Levy, the star of ABC’s new comedy series Suburgatory.
Deadine reports that Levy will play Mia, who heads off to a remote cabin with a group of friends, just after she recently overdosed on drugs. She’s there to try and kick drugs, but the trip takes a turn for the worse when a malevolent spirit is unleashed when the friends read from The Book of the Dead.
Apparently Mia ‘corresponds’ to Bruce Campbell’s Ash character from the original The Evil Dead, although exactly what that means isn’t clear. The casting follows news at the end of last week that Shiloh Fernandez is set to play the male lead. Shooting starts next month.
