There are a lot of really good gay-themed short film out there, and one I’ve just discovered is Triple Standard, which you can watch above. The film starts off in a men’s locker room, where Crim reveals his ugly homophobia after D licks him.
Despite Crim’s hatred of ‘that fag shit’, it turns out that the two men have been having sex with one another for three years. But after Crim’s latest outburst, D has had enough and makes a stand against the other’s homophobic comments and constant insistence that he isn’t gay, telling him he need to stop.
One of the most interesting bits of the short isn’t just that Crim insisting he isn’t gay (although maybe, just maybe, he can come round to thinking he’s bi), but also insists his lover isn’t gay either, even though he’s standing in front of him saying he is. It’s a great display of the sort of internal homophobia some still possess and the frayed loops of logic people use to get round it – if I’m not gay and neither is the guy I’m screwing, it’s not gay!
Triple Standard is a surprisingly emotionally evolving short, with some good performances and nice touches in the script. Watch William Branden Blinn’s great little film above.
