New X-Men Set Photo Teases Evan Peter’s Quicksilver

July 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-day-of-the-future-past-maximoff-set-photo
We’ve got the slightly unusual situation in the next couple of years, with the Marvel character Quicksilver set to appear in both X-Men: Days Of Future Past and The Avengers 2. However as the film rights are controlled by different companies he’ll be played by different actors. Avengers can’t mention his X-Men heritage, while X-Men can’t say he’ll one days join up with a superhero team.

Days Of Future Past will be our first taste of Quicksilver, and now Bryan Singer has tweeted out a hint towards that with a set photo of the Maximoff home. Quicksilver is Pietro Maximoff, who’s being played by American Horror Story’s Evan Peters.

There’s no news however on how he fits into the plot. Quicksilver is the son of Magneto, but we don’t know if he’s aware of this is the movie. And with a time-travelling plot, it’s not clear if he’ll be in the future with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart or the past with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

The main plot revolves around the X-Men from the past having to stop an assassination that will result in giant robots called sentinels rounding up mutants and interning them in camps. It’s due out May 2014.

Aussie Actor Josh Helman Joins X-Men: Days of Future Past

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Josh-HelmanAs X-Men: Days Of Future Past has been shooting for weeks now, you’d have thought they’d have completed casting, but apparently not, as Australian actor Josh Helman has landed an unknown but pivotal role in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

No details have been given about his character, but it is believed to be an important part since he will be on the Montreal set for many weeks, according to TheWrap.

The rising star reunites with his Mad Max: Fury Road co-star Nicholas Hoult for the film, which Bryan Singer is directing from a script by Simon Kinberg, based on the 1980s comic book arc by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The story revolves an alternate future where all mutants are hunted down by machines known as Sentinels, following the death of a Senator by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Josh Helman joins a cast that also includes X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), along with the likes of  Peter Dinklage and Omar Sy.

Josh Helman has recently starred in Jack Reacher and Animal Kingdom, and will next be seen in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Evan Peters To Play Quicksilver In X-Men: Days of Future Past

May 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

evan-petersLast week Joss Whedon confirmed that Quicksilver will appear in The Avengers 2. Now director Bryan Singer has tweeted that the character will also be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, played by American Horror Story star Evan Peters.

Singer said, ‘Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen#DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.’

As Bryan Singer mentions in his announcement, Quicksilver (a.k.a. Pietro Maximoff) was a part of the X-Men universe before becoming an Avenger with his sister Scarlet Witch (a.k.a. Wanda Maximoff). Quicksilver is the son of Magneto, played by both Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen in the X-Men universe, using his power of super-human speed to do evil for the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

It’s unusual that a comic book character can appear in film franchises run by two different studios, but apparently there’s a special clause about Quicksilver because of his strong presence in both the X-Men and Avengers worlds. Apparently the way it works is that Quicksilver can appear in an Avengers film as long as his X-Men past and Magneto parentage aren’t mentioned. He’s almost certain to be played by a different actor in Avengers 2.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is currently shooting in Montreal.

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Blue On The X-Men: Days Of Future Past Set

May 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan Singer has been keeping us all up to date with the progress of X-Men: Days Of Future Past by tweeting a series of images from the set. Now we’ve got a couple more. Above you can see the first image of Jennifer Lawrence in full-on blue Mystique make-up (Singer says she’s ‘vengeful’, so don’t expect her to be nice in this film), while below, Peter Dinklage discusses his role with Singer.

We still don’t know who Dinklage will play, although some are saying the moustache he’s sporting suggest he’ll play Bolivar Trask, creator of the Sentinels that cause all manner of trouble for the Patrick Stewart era mutants, and result in a bit of time-travelling to get James McAvoy and crew to prevent something happening that will cause the Sentinels to be needed in the first place.

The movie is out summer 2014.

James McAvoy Goes Counterculture In X-Men: Days of Future Past Set Pic

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bryan Singer has been keen to share pics from the set of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and the latest is James McAvoy, who’s shown in his wheelchair. It’s also a bit of a kick in the teeth to bald-headed Patrick Stewart, as McAvoy’s looks for the early 70s part of the movie shows him with flowing counterculture locks.

Bryan Singer is directing from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, based on a 1980s comic book arc by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. In the comics, the mutants are being hunted and locked up in internment camps by Sentinels in an alternate future, after an important Senator is murdered by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

The film is due to hit cinemas July 18th, 2014.

First Look At Halle Berry In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-days-of-future-past-halle-berry
Halle Berry was one of the last original X-Men cast members to sign up for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and shortly after that, a little confusion over her involvement emerged when it was announced she was pregnant. However she’s not letting that stop her, as proved by the pic above, which Bryan Singer tweeted, showing her back on set as Storm.

It’s a bit of a new look, for the weather-controlling mutant, who joins returning cast members Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Daniel Cudmore, Ellen Page and others, alongside the First Class cast.

The film sees a bit of time travelling, with the First Class crew having to prevent the assassination of a politician, which if it takes place will result in all mutants being rounded up and put in internment camps. It’s hit cinemas next summer.

First Look At Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman In X-Men: Day Of Future Past

April 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shawn-ashmore-x-men-days-of-future-pastIt’s an X-Men mash-up in Days Of Future Past, with many of the cast of the original mutant trilogy starring alongside the First Class actors. That includes Shawn Ashmore, who played Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, in the earlier days, and is now back on set for Days Of Future Past.

We have the proof of that now, as director Bryan Singer has tweeted a pic of Ashmore in his X-Men leather from the shoot. He’s also covered in little orange stickers, suggesting that whatever shot they’re doing involves a bit of motion-capture special effects.

The film is a bit of a time-travel tale, with the First Class cast having to prevent an assassination that will cause all mutants to be rounded up into internment camps if it goes ahead. The film’s due out July 2014.

First Look At Beast In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

April 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

x-men-days-of-future-part-beast-tweetThe shoot for X-Men: Days Of Future Past is gearing up in Montreal, and so Bryan Singer has tweeted us our first look at Beast (Nicholas Hoult) in the movie. Well, it’s presumed it’s Beast, even though he does look slightly different and more grown up than he did in X-Men: First Class.

The director also included a quote from Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s timeless story Beauty and the Beast, which is rather fitting for this character. It reads, “Many a monster wears the form of a man; it is better of the two to have the heart of a man & the form of a monster”

The movie is due out summer 2014, and hopefully we’ll have plenty more mutant reveals before then.

Daniel Cudmore Returns As Colossus For X-Men: Days of Future Past

March 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

daniel-cudmoreThe casting news for X-Men: Days Of Future Past is coming thick and fast ahead of the start of shooting next month. Bryan Singer has now released a photo on Twitter of the casting wall (which you can see below), which reveals that original X-Men trilogy star Daniel Cudmore is returning as Colossus in X-Men: Days of Future Past, along with new actors Bingbing Fan and BooBoo Stewart.

Bingbing Fan is set to play Blink, a mutant with the power of teleportation, however it isn’t known who BooBoo Stewart is playing. The photo suggests there are six roles left to be cast, although it’s not clear what parts these are, or whether they’re new cast members or those returning from previous X-Men movies.

We do know that Azazel won’t be back, as Jason Flemyng has revealed he isn’t reprising his role from X-Men: First Class.

Alan Cumming Back For X-Men: Days of Future Past

March 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alan-cummingX-Men: Days of Future Past is going to see a major uniting of X-Men, with the First Class cast starring alongside Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Juno Temple, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and more. And now one more mutant from the earlier trilogy can be added to the mix, Nightcrawler, as played by queer actor Alan Cumming.

The news comes from James McAvoy in an interview with Heat Radio (picked up by ComicBookMovie), where he says, “It’s huge. The cast is huge. You’ve got me, [Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender,] Nick Hoult will be back and he’s just blossoming massively over there [in the U.S.] as well. Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming, Peter Dinklage I hear mentioned – I don’t know if that’s happening. ‘Huge’ Jackman‘s coming by. He is huge. He’s massive, he’s just like – he’s about 7’5″ and like muscle-lier than Satan in the film Legend.”

While it does sound like McAvoy is going by what he’s heard rather than definite facts, the mention of Alan Cumming, who hasn’t been talked about before, does suggest he’s got real on his inclusion in the movie.

The films starts shooting next month, with a time-travelling plot that sees the First Class cast having to prevent a terrible future from occuring that sees mutants rounded up and interned in concentration camps. It’s due out summer 2014.
