It probably couldn’t be better timing for Jenny’s Wedding that the movie is arriving in the wake of the US Supreme Court equal marriage ruling, as the movie stars Katherine Heigl as a lesbian who’s excited to be marrying her sweetheart (Alexis Bledel).
However, Jenny’s parents have always thought that her new fiancee was her roommate. When they discover the truth they aren’t too happy about it as it goes against their values – something Jenny was aware of and one of the reasons she’d kept their relationship from them.
Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond and Grace Gummer co-star in the film, which is due out in US cinemas on July 31st (and on VoD the following day).

While it feels like strides are being taken in society’s acceptance of transexual people, the fact remains that they suffer a massively disproportionate amount of violence, with far too many murders of trans people reported each year.
Tom Hardy pulls double duty in Legend, starring opposite himself as both of the infamous Kray twins, who rules the London underworld in the 1960s and became celebrities in their own right while doing it. Now a proper trailer has arrived, which you can see below.
Synopsis: ‘Having been good friends for years, Martin and Tomaz now find themselves on the cusp of adulthood. Martin’s father sends his son to southern Brazil, where the family is from, to sort out an inheritance matter. Tomaz accompanies him there.
It’s perhaps odd that gay-themed films rarely deal directly with homophobic violence, perhaps finding it too painful a topic to turn into ‘entertainment’. However it’s certainly a worthwhile topic for cinema and that’s what Stand does, mixing that with a look at dealing with it in modern Russia, where homophobia is growing and the lives of ga men are getting ever worse.
As if Lily Tomlin as a lesbian, bohemian grandmother wasn’t enough to ensure Grandma was worth a watch, the trailer also gives us the prospect of Laverne Cox as a tatooist plying her art on the comedienne.
Over the years gay people have certainly been maginalised, but for various reasons the extent of that marginalisation has often been overlooked or pushed to one side. For example, that’s certainly true of things such as the ‘Red Scare’ of the 1950s and 1960s in the US.
For a while it looked like we migh never see Boulevard, as despite being Robin Williams’ final movie, no distributor seemed keen to pick it up. However now the film, which also stars Bob Odenkirk, Kathy Baker and Roberto Aguire, is due to open on July 10th in select cinemas in the US, and the trailer for the movie has arrived.
It’s a big time for gay film festivals, with both Frameline and LA’s Outfests – two of the biggest fests in the world – happening over the next few weeks. One of the movies lining up for Outfest is Beautiful Something, which screens at 9:30 pm, July 16, 2015 at the DGA Theater Complex.
