You’re Killing Me Trailer – Comedy Horror gets a little bit gay when a guy starts dating a serial killer

June 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

youre-killing-me-We’ve had a few gay-themed horror movies, but they haven’t been altogether successful. Hopefully the comedy horror You’re Killing Me will have more luck. It’s due to screen out Outfest in LA in July 15th, but the trailer is already here for us to take a peek at.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An intriguing mix of horror, camp and romantic comedy, You’re Killing Me demonstrates what happens when narcissistic, wannabe Internet star George meets Joe, a monotone serial killer. George catches Joe’s attention and they immediately begin dating. While all of George’s friends agree that Joe seems a bit strange, George claims his new beau “isn’t scary, he’s gorgeous.”‘

Gay comedy luminaries such as Drew Droege, Matthew Wilkas, Sam Pancake, and Jack Plotnick pop up in the movie, with Jim Hansen directing. You can watch the trailer below. [Read more…]

las-malas-lenguasLas Malas Lenguas has its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival this weekend, on Saturday June 13th at 1:50pm at the Regal Cinemas LA Live #14. To mark that fact we thought it was the perfect time to post the trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘LAS MALAS LENGUAS is a powerful film about the affluent society of Colombia and breaks the silence about abortion and homosexuality in one of Latin America’s most conservative cultures. The film also introduces an incredible new young actress Sara Montoya who delivers an astonishing understated performance in an almost heightened reality conveying a sharp and penetrating observation of the complicated world of the Colombian elite.’

Do I Sound Gay? Trailer – Is it time to re-embrace the gay voice?

June 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

do-i-sound-gay-slideWe first reported on Do I Sound Gay? in April 2014 when it was crowdfunding for completion cash. Now it’s finished and has a distribution deal which means it will arrive in US cinemas and on VoD on July 10th.

The trailer is here giving us a look at a film which goes deep into the idea of the ‘gay voice’, which for decades became the butt of jokes by straight people at the expense of LGBT people. As a results fell out of favour with many, who felt that in the fight for equal rights the gay voice undermined that battle and allowed straight people to think we were inherently different to them.

However in recent years there’s been a fightback, with many believing that the belittling of the gay voice marks a kind of assimilation that cannot accept difference and actually undermines what gay people have been fighting for – the right to be whoever we are without shame. It may also be that dislike of the gay voice, allied with an obsession with being ‘straight-acting’, is a mark of internalised homophobia.

Director David Thorpe has previously said, “In the tradition of funny-but-serious first-person movies like Supersize Me, Roger and Me and Good Hair, you’ll follow me as I encounter a colorful cast of linguists, historians, voice coaches, speech therapists, friends, family, and total strangers on the street, gay and non-gay, who share their wisdom and touching, funny stories about the “gay voice.” You’ll also hear intimate confessions and hilarious anecdotes from LGBT icons – Margaret Cho, Tim Gunn, Don Lemon, Dan Savage, David Sedaris and George Takei – as they open up about the “gay voice.” Thanks to all the incredible people I met, I was able to embrace my authentic voice.” [Read more…]

Folsom Forever Exclusive Clip – Showing off the incredible diversity of the fetish scene street fair

June 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

folsom-forever-slide2I wish I’d never watched the clip below. I always knew my life would be the complete the moment I saw Mickey Mouse wearing nothing but a jockstrap and high heels posing as if he were giving a BJ to Minnie. Now I’ve seen it and I don’t know what the point will be of the rest of my existence.

However that’s just part of the fascinating exclusive clip from the documentary Folsom Forever that we’ve been given, which shows off the astonishing diversity of San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair, where a gay-friendly church can rub up against a dildo hoopla game, and you can visit the PFLAG just after you’ve seen something that means you will never think of Disneyland in the same way again.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In 1984, a scrappy little neighborhood in San Francisco – home to many low-income tenants and the heart of the gay male leather scene – faced destruction from the bulldozers of redevelopment and the AIDS crisis. The Folsom Street Fair was started to call attention to gentrification and raise money for AIDS charities. Folsom Forever tells the story of how this small street fair grew into the biggest outdoor kink and fetish event in the world, and managed to do a lot of good along the way.

Breaking Glass Pictures releases Folsom Forever on DVD & VoD in the US on June 9th. [Read more…]

Larry Kramer In Love And Anger Trailer – Exploring the life of the LGBT activist and Normal Heart writer

June 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

larry-kramerTo many people Larry Kramer is just the guy who wrote The Normal Heart (if they’ve heard of him at all), but many don’t realise that the play and recent film were largely based on real life and Kramer’s own experiences on the frontline of the battle against AIDS in the 1980s.

He is a fascinating figure who even before the advent of HIV was known for his rather confrontational approach to LGBT politics, which ensured that over the years he’s made as many enemies as friends. However his fire also helped co-found two of the most important organisations in the early battle against AIDS, who tried to force the government to take action.

Now HBO in American is set to air a documentary about the man and his life on June 29th. A trailer for the documentary has now arrived, which you can watch below. It’s a film that should be well worth a watch. [Read more…]

54 The Director’s Cut Clip – Ryan Philippe & the boys try out shirtless dancing

June 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

54-shirtlessThe story of the 1998 movie movie 54 has passed into movie lore, with the movies finished by director Mark Christopher, but then hacked up by the studio, who removed, among other things, all reference to Ryan Philippe’s character being bisexual.

So gone was a man-on-man kiss and a scene where Philippe is behind the bar in the club and does some shirtless dancing – complete with homoerotic edge.

Although the Director’s Cut has screened at festivals before, it’s now coming to general audiences for the first time, as the full version is released today in the US on digital HD.

To give a reason to check it out, ET has gotten its hands on the shirtless dancing clip, which you can see below. [Read more…]

Wild Horses Trailer – Does James Franco only play gay characters now?

May 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

wild-horses-james-francoI think we need to start a petition, as with his numerous LGBT roles James Franco is taking work away from good, honest, real gay people. Straight people coming over here and taking our jobs, it’s just not right!

Seriously though, no movie star before him has done as much as Franco to explore gay characters and stories as Franco has, as both an actor and a director. Now he’s back with another one, where he’s playing gay, but it’s the legendary Robert Duvall behind the camera.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Texas Ranger Samantha Payne (Luciana Duvall) reopens a 15-year-old Missing Persons case, uncovering clues linking a local boy’s death to wealthy family man, Scott Briggs (Robert Duvall). Samantha will stop at nothing to discover the truth even if it means risking her own life.

‘With the unexpected return of his estranged gay son Ben (Franco), Briggs must find a way to either silence the law for good, or come to terms with the hidden relationship between Ben and the boy that he tried to end years ago.’

The film, which sounds like it mightbe well worth watching, is due out in the US on June 5th. It’s not Franco’s only gay film this year, as he’s also got I Am Michael coming out, in which he plays a man who turns from LGBT activist to ex-gay poster child.

Take a look at the wild horses trailer below. [Read more…]

Of Girls and Horses Trailer – Lesbian drama gets a little equine

May 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Of-Girls-and-Horses-slideAcclaimed lesbian director Monica Treut returns with the release of Wolfe Video’s LBGT drama OF GIRLS AND HORSES, available on DVD and digitally in the US on June 30th.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Featuring a quartet of talented stars, this under-stated drama from prolific lesbian filmmaker Monika Treut deftly unfolds the coming-of-age of rebellious teen Alex (popular German TV star, Ceci Chuh). Sent away by her mother to a horse farm in the country, Alex keeps up her bad girl ways but is gradually enamored with the horses – and with the resident lesbian riding instructor, Nina (the stunning Vanida Karun) who is taking a break from her partner Christine (the equally beautiful Ellen Grell). As Nina maintains her boundaries and tries to help Alex find purpose and maturity at this crucial moment in her life, the arrival of privileged young equestrian Kathy (Alissa Wilms) presents new challenges and opportunities for Alex as she grapples with her longing for love and connection. A beautiful drama.’

Writer/director/producer Treut (My Father Is Coming, Gendernauts, Dr. Paglia) is a pioneer of international LBGT cinema, and returns once again with a transcendent story of lesbian love, innocence, and the universal struggle to find a place in the world.

Sense8 Trailer – Take a look at the Wachowskis’ Netflix series (with a bit of LGBT interest)

May 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

sense8-trailer2Andy and Lana Wachowski haven’t been having too much luck on the big screen, with the likes of Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending underperforming. However there’s high hopes for their new series Sense8, which brings a splash on high concept sci-fi to Netflix’s original shows.

You can take a look at the trailer below, which certainly has shades of The Matrix about it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘One moment links 8 minds in disparate parts of the world, putting 8 strangers in each other’s lives, each other’s secrets, and in terrible danger. From the unparalleled creative minds of The Wachowskis (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Cloud Atlas”) and J. Michael Straczynski (Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” “World War Z”), as well as Grant Hill (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Cloud Atlas”).

‘The international cast includes: Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen and Max Riemelt. Also, Daryl Hannah, Naveen Andrews, Terrence Mann, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Adam Shapiro, Ness Bautista and Joe Pantoliano. Unlike anything seen on television before, Sense8 pushes the boundaries in style, scope and story. For more information about #Sense8, follow the series on Twitter.’

Briefly hinted at with a shot of a bisexual orgy, the show does include some LGBT interest, including a gay couple, Lito (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Hernando (Alfonso Herrera), with the former being an actor keen to keep his sexuality secret, including enlisting a woman to publicly act as his beard. There are also hints in the trailer that the characters being linked together will mean the series takes a look at gender identity.

The show premieres in Netflix June 5th. [Read more…]
