The D Train Trailer – Jack Black & James Marsden have sex (but let’s not mention it)

March 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

D-Train-jack-black-james-marsdenThe D Train got a decent but mixed reaction on its Sundance premiere, but ignited quite a lot of comment over a sex scene between James Marsden’s bisexual Oliver and Jack Black’s ostensibly straight Dan. Now the trailer has arrived, which lets us know something happened between them, while fudging the issue of exactly what.

In fact it makes the whole trailer a bit of odd, as Black seems shellshocked about what happened in LA, but all we see is him having a good time. But hey, it’s Hollywood law that if you can hide the gay in the marketing, you do, so we don’t actually get to really see what going on and once more Hollywood can say one thing about LGBT visibility and do another.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘All his life, Dan Landsman (Jack Black) has never been the cool guy. That’s about to change – if he can convince Oliver Lawless (Marsden), the most popular guy from his high school who’s now the face of a national Banana Boat ad campaign, to show up with him to their class reunion. A man on a mission, Dan travels from Pittsburgh to LA and spins a web of lies to recruit Lawless. But he gets more than he bargains for as the unpredictable Lawless proceeds to take over his home, career, and entire life. Showcasing Jack Black and James Marden’s most outrageous performances to date, THE D TRAIN serves up the question: how far would you go to be popular? Co-starring Kathryn Hahn and Jeffrey Tambor.’

A May 8th US release is set. [Read more…]

All Yours Trailer – An Argentinian rent boy & a middle-aged Belgian baker make for a mismatched gay couple

March 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

all-yours-slideDirector David Lambert had plenty of success with the gay-themed arthouse flick Beyond The Walls in 2012, and now he’s back with All Yours, which takes a look at the type of gay ‘romance’ that doesn’t often get looked at in films.

The movie premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and here’s the synopsis from that fest: ‘Young Argentine Lucas arrives in a small Belgian town to visit gay bakery owner Henry, who fell in love with him through the internet; Lucas strutted his erotic stuff online in the hope of securing a better future for himself. Henry buys him a plane ticket to Europe, expecting in return that Lucas will not only share his bed but also help out at the bakery. However, their ideas about living together differ greatly. On top of that, Lucas gets to know a Canadian woman named Audrey and her son Jeff.

‘This unusual starting point for director Lambert serves his aim of delving deeply into our interpersonal relationships, our wishes and desires, and the understandable need for a supportive environment. The filmmaker succeeded in humorously describing and distinguishing the film’s characters and in aptly portraying their fragility and inner uncertainty. The bold musical and visual elements round out the picture’s compelling atmosphere, and are among the most telling aspects of the talented Belgian filmmaker’s unmistakable style.’

Breaking Glass Pictures has picked up the movie for release in the US, and you can take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

drink-me-slide3Well, this looks like it might be pretty hot! Last year we had Richard Mansfield’s first feature-length film, the period thriller The Secret Path, and this year it’s the turn on his husband, Daniel, who’s offering a little vampiric horror with Drink Me.

Andy loses his job and they take in a handsome stranger called Sebastian. Nightmares come to life as Andy realizes that Sebastian is hiding a dark secret. Could Sebastian be the killer stalking the streets of their neighborhood? A classically sexy thriller – with a delicious vampiric touch – DRINK ME is a highly erotic and exciting film.’

March 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seek-slide3We’ve previously had teasers for Seek on BGPS, but that was back before the movie has its world premiere. Now it’s been doing the festival circuit with some success and has been picked up for release by TLA Releasing.

The ‘film centers on Evan, a shy, budding young writer who attempts to shake off the torment of lost love while taking an assignment profiling an alluring club promoter who reigns over a world of music, lights, and drag queens. Around him are a group of twenty-something urbanites who all long for the same thing: approval. Whether it’s by someone they find attractive, or by the cities’ in crowd, or by the industry they work in, all strive for the proverbial higher branch, sometimes failing to recognize the fruit that lies within their reach.’

Ryan Fisher and Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski star, alongside Going Down In La La Land’s Matthew Ludwinski – and as you can see from the teaser below, they look good and so does the film. [Read more…]

Tab Hunter: Confidential Trailer – Looking at the life of the gay 1950s silver screen idol

March 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tab-hunterMany younger people would be hard-pressed to name a film Tab Hunter starred in, but in the 1950s he was one of the first and biggest teen idols, swooned over by women (and some men) around the world. Some have suggested he was to the 1950s what Zac Efron was to the late 2000s – incredibly handsome but still with a bit of a boy-next-door air about him.

Indeed, if you mention his name to many female post-War baby boomers, you can still see the remnants of the dreamboat crush they once had on him.

However what nobody except those close to him knew at the time was that he was gay, something that didn’t become official public knowledge until many years later. Indeed it was only in 2006 with the publication of his autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star, that he confirmed the rumours that had circulated for many years about his sexuality.

Now that book has been turned into a documentary, featuring extensive interviews with the now 83-year-old Hunter, about his life and dealing with being gay and in the public eye at a time when homosexual acts were still illegal.

You can take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Teaser Short Film Trailer – Looking at drug addiction in the LGBT community

March 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

teaser-adam-jonesThere is all sorts of work going on in the world of LGBT-themed cinema, from films that desperately want to be commercial to those that are always going to struggle to find a wide audience due their avant garde nature.

Adam Jones’ Teaser definitely skews towards that end of the spectrum. As he told us, ‘I’m a student filmmaker [making] a video project on gay men & the drug scene, a great story of recovery.

‘The short film starts shooting next month. The story is based on my story and recovery with drug use, we are shooting in a super 8 style to bring the daily issue to a whole new level cinematically. The teaser has shots of old cell phone footage of drug use, but a strong 2 min visual of imagery and symbolism. The story begins at Azure Acres Treatment where a young man’s recovery takes place.

‘I’m looking forward to present the short film in April at a live screening.’

He adds, ‘As the film begins at Azure Acres treatment center (Napa,CA), we go back in time to a year before entering treatment. Not only capturing every detail of how meth was introduced into the young man’s life, we are showing the actual steps he took to the road of destruction through dream sequences & cinematic clips pieced together into a story.’

The teaser for the film below certainly suggest this isn’t going to be an easy movie, but it could be a very intriguing one with its use of montage, contrasting images of gay life with drug imagery. Take a look. [Read more…]

Check It, A Doc About The Only Known All Gay & Queer Gang, Seeks Funding

March 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

check-itThe perception is that gangs are dangerous, quite scary and also homophobic, and while that may be largely true, there is one that’s a little different, as it’s the only known gang made up solely of gay & queer members. Now a documentary about it is being made called Check It, which is seeking $60,000 via IndieGoGo to get it completed.

Vice reports that ‘The group formed to provide members safety in numbers and let people know that if you jumped a gay kid in DC, you’d likely get jumped back in retaliation… Unlike other gangs, the Check It aren’t tied to a specific geographic location. They hang out at each others’ houses, mostly, as well as a local Denny’s and the Chinatown and Gallery Place Metro stations. And they didn’t have to do much to spread their name. A local go-go band called ReAction wrote a song about the gang and name-checked individual members. That meant people like [Trayvon] Warren (pictured) had a certain amount of notoriety, which allowed him to go to pretty much any neighborhood in DC without people giving him much trouble for being, as he and his friends put it, “faggie.”‘

The documentary provides ‘an intimate portrait of 5 childhood friends as they claw themselves out of gang life through an unlikely avenue–fashion.’

At the IndieGoGo page says, life can be extremely tough for African-American queer teens, with many rejected by their family and community, and then face a struggle to survive, with the gang providing a refuge, despite the still present dangers.

You can take a look at the trailer below, which is introduced by Steve Buscemi, and then head over to the IndieGoGo page for more info. [Read more…]

Mr. Holmes Teaser – Ian McKellen takes on a old-age Sherlock

March 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mr-holmes-poster1-slideBenedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller have some Sherlock Holmes competition this year, as Ian McKellen is taking on the legendary detective, as a rather older version of the character than his youger competition.

Now the first teaser trailer for the movie has arrived, which is brief but gives us a decent feel for the film. And if you want to see more, you can take a look at the clip McKellen debuted a few weeks ago.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen takes on the iconic role of Detective Sherlock Holmes, one of the British literature’s most revered characters in the forthcoming film MR HOLMES.

‘In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.

‘Starring Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Savages), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter)and newcomer Milo Parker, MR HOLMES is adapted from Mitch Cullin’s 2005 novel A Slight Trick of the Mind and is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters).

MR HOLMES will be released in cinemas across the UK & Ireland on June 19th. [Read more…]
