New The Nutcracker And The Four Realms Trailer – Disney turns a classic ballet into an epic film fantasy

September 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Most of Disney’s recent family-friendly live-action fantasies have been based on their animated movies (Beauty & The Beast, Maleficent, The Jungle Book). However, with The Nutcracker And The Four Realms, they’re relying on the popularity of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet rather than their own back catalogue. But from the looks of this trailer they’re still giving it a massive fantasy treatment with a film that looks a little Narnia and a little Alice In Wonderland.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and featuring a special performance by Misty Copeland, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale. In UK cinemas October 2018.’

The movie is due in UK cinemas November 2nd, 2018. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Bad Times At The El Royale Trailer – Chris Hemsworth just can’t keep his shirt buttoned

August 30, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I wonder whether they had to spend a lot of time convincing Chris Hemsworth it was integral to his Bad Times At The El Royale character that he appear unable to button him shirt. It’s very nice for us though, and it does allow Hemsworth to stand out amongst a very good cast.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell. Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson and Cynthia Erivo lead an all-star cast in BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE.

‘Jeremy Latcham (Producer) – “Drew Goddard [Director] has assembled a lobby full of amazing characters in his storied El Royale Hotel and I cannot wait for audiences to meet these truly unique folks and learn who they are and uncover what makes each of them tick. It will almost certainly not be what it is expected to be and that is a lot of the fun of the film. It is character driven in the best sense.”’

Bad Times At The El Royale is due in cinemas on October. Take a look at the new trailer and character posters below. [Read more…]

New Suspiria Trailer – Tilda Swinton & Dakota Johnson star in the intriguing remake

August 23, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since it was first hinted there might be a remake of Dario Argento’s classic 1977 horror movie Suspiria, people have been grumbling that it shouldn’t be touched. However, it appears from the new trailer for Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino’s new take on the story is keen to show this will be a very different film. And it’s potentially a very interesting one.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renowned dance company, its artistic director (Tilda Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Dakota Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Lutz Ebersdorf) become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.’

What Men Want Trailer – Taraji P. Henson reads men’s minds in the gender-flipped remake

August 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s a bizarre thing, but for several years the 2000 Mel Gibson movie What Women Want was the highest grossing rom-com ever. Its $374 million worldwide means it remains one of the most successful romantic comedies in history.

Now it’s getting a remake/reboot which look very timely in the #metoo era, with Taraji P. Henson taking over the role of the person who can hear the thoughts of members of the opposite sex. That gives plenty of potential to look at ideas of gender and race, although from the evidence of this trailer, it’s not clear how deep it will go.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is a successful sports agent who’s constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When Ali is passed up for a well-deserved promotion, she questions what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world… until she gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts! With her newfound power, Ali looks to outsmart her colleagues as she races to sign the next basketball superstar, but the lengths she has to go to will put her relationship with her best friends and a potential new love interest (Aldis Hodge) to the test.’

Tracy Morgan, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Phoebe Robinson and Max Greenfield also star, with Adam Shankman directing. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

The Happytime Murders Red Band Trailer – Melissa McCarthy joins a grown-up puppet noir

August 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a few years The Jim Henson Company has been working on The Happytime Murders, but despite plans to shoot in 2010 and 2012, and stars likes Katherine Heigl, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx linked to it at various times, the project remained stuck in development hell. Now though it’s in the can with Melissa McCarthy starring, even if it did have a few troubles after the first trailer and poster was released, when the owners of Sesame Street sued them as they felt this very grown-up puppet movie was trying to link itself to the kids programme.

That lawsuit quickly went away, and now a new trailer has arrived to give us a fresh look at some very rude puppetry.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together to try and solve who is brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang,” a beloved classic puppet show.’

Joel McHale, Maya Rudolph and Elizabeth Banks also star. Take a look at the new trailer below. The movie will be in cinemas on August 27th. [Read more…]

New Venom Trailer – Take a proper look at Tom Hardy’s Spidey symbiote

August 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Sony released a first teaser for their Venom movie in February, they probably weren’t expecting the, erm, venomous backlash they received. While their were complaints about all sorts of things, the ultimately boiled down to the fact they’d released a trailer that failed to actually show Venom.

They started to remedy that with a new trailer and poster in April, and now we get our best taste yet, which suggests this may be the twisted tale many had hoped, rather than the more sanitised Venom of Spider-man 3.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’ The movie also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott, with Ruben Fleischer directing.

The film will be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]
