Maria Bello & Frank Grillo Head For James Wan’s House Of Horror

January 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maria-BelloA couple of day ago it was revealed that Maria Bello had decided to leave the Kiefer Sutherland TV series Touch partway through the second season. Now she’s got something new to fill her time, as Variety reports that she and The Grey star Frank Grill have signed up for a James Wan produced thriller, which until recently was going by the title, House Of Horror.

Now it’s lacking a nam, but the plot is the same, which sees Bello as a psychologist and Grillo as a policeman, who team up to interrogate the sole survivor of a ghost-hunting expedition that ended with five people dead. Essentially it’s a police procedural mixed up with a supernatural thriller, and now with Bello and Grillo attached, it’s certainly got some talented actors involved.

Will Canon, helmer of the 2010 crime-thriller Brotherhood, is set to direct from a script by Max La Bella.

Peter Facinelli Is Going In The Freezer With Dylan McDermott

January 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Peter-FacinelliJust last week it was revealed that Dylan McDermott had signed up to star in the action-thriller Freezer, for director Mikael Salomon. Now he’s got some company as Twilight and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli has joined the cast. Filming start in Edmonton, Canada later this month. Yuliya Snigir (A Good Day to Die Hard) also stars.

Robert (McDermott) is an everyday guy who finds himself tested beyond human endurance when he wakes up to find himself locked in an industrial freezer by Russian thugs. They insist he returns the $8 million dollars he stole from them, the only problem is, Robert has no idea what they are talking about. Surprised as anyone would be, Robert finds he is not alone in the freezer when he finds Sam (Facinelli) hiding behind a series of boxes. Unsure of each other, but stuck in a battle together, the two must join forces and fight for their lives before they freeze to death, as the truth slowly reveals itself.

Producer Lee Nelson commented, “Peter Facinelli will surprise a lot of people with this character. There is a subtlety and depth to his choices that keeps us guessing at every turn. It’s something we haven’t seen from him before and it’s truly exciting to watch.”

Jim Carrey & Adam Sandler Sought For Guardians of the Galaxy

January 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jim-carreyWhile we’ve heard about numerous candidates for the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, now Latino Review suggests the comic book company is looking at comedians Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler for roles in the movie. It isn’t clear what parts they are being eyed for, although it’s been suggested they may be being sought to voice CG characters such as Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

Actors Wes Bentley, Cam Gigandet, and Chris Lowell have also recently tested for the Peter Quill (a.k.a. Star-Lord) role in this superhero adventure. Last month, we reported that Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi were the finalists for the Star-Lord lead role. Since then, though, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Rosenbaum have also tested for the part, there’s bee no news on whether any of them have actually scored the part.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. Shooting will begin this summer at London’s Shepperton Studios.

First Lovelace Clip – Amanda Seyfried has a sexy photoshoot

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lovelace debuts at Sundance this week, featuring Amanda Seyfried as the first hardcore porn superstar – Deep Throat’s Linda Lovelace. Now we can get our first look a the movie with the clip above.

Linda Lovelace is a fascinating figure far beyond the titillation of being the star of one of the best known porn films in history. Initially appearing in hardcore (and even bestiality) movies, at first Lovelace seemed to revel in her status. However during her divorce from Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard) in the late 70s, she claimed that he was violent and had forced her into pornography at gunpoint (with some evidence to back her up).

She said that her marriage was plagued with beatings and rape, and that when she appeared in porn, it was basically enforced prostitution. While there have been some disagreements as to the extent Lovelace was a willing participant in her porn career, there seems little doubt that her marriage to Traynor was vicious and cruel. She then became an anti-pornography champion, speaking at public events and testifying at government hearings on pornography. However she later said she felt used by the anti-pornography movement, which got a lot mileage out of having Lovelace as a convert, but which never helped her out. She died in a car accident in 2002.

Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) direct.

Olympus Has Fallen Trailer – Gerard Butler takes on terrorists

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The White House isn’t going to do well this year, as it’s being taken over by terrorists in both Roland Emmerich’s White House Down and Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen. It’s the latter which arrives first on March 22nd in the US and April 19th in the UK, and now the trailer for the movie has arrived.

It all looks very Die Hard at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, with Gerard Butler as an ex-special forces officer taken off the President’s security detail after an accident. However when international terrorists attack the White House and take the President (Aaron Eckhart) hostage. It also stars Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Ashley Judd.

While the trailer does suggest a movie that’ll be completely over the top, it could also be quite fun. We’ll have to wait and see.

Dwayne Johnson Plans Monster-Fighting Teddy Bear Film

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

teddy-bear-drawingAfter the success of Ted, it’s perhaps not a surprise that others are looking at whether they can make movies about teddy bears. Now Dwayne Johnson is planning to do just that, with THR reporting that he plans to produce and star in a film based on the drawing – ‘Teddy Bears: Protecting Innocent Children from Monsters Under the Bed Since 1902’.

As you can see from the pic above, the film will be about a monster-fighting teddy bear. The image was drawn by DeviantArt user begemott (aka Alex Panagopoulos, “a Greek software engineer turned fantasy artist”). New Line Cinema is backing the movie, which is currently going by the working title Teddy Bear.

No screenwriter or director is attached yet, but the studio is apparently hoping to turn in into a major family franchise. There’s no news yet on the exact direction the film will take or when it might go into production.

James Franco To Star In & Direct James Ellroy’s American Tabloid

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-franco-600pxJames Franco certainly likes a challenge,  and now he’s got a new one, as he’s told MTV that he plans to direct and star in an adaptation of James Ellroy’s American Tabloid. The book is the first novel in Ellroy’s Underworld USA trilogy, which is his fictionalised, violent look at the mid-twentieth century.

Franco did urge a noted of caution though, saying “We’re going to do ‘American Tabloid’ by James Ellroy… [But] it’s not all put together yet. It’s still early.”

The book is about three men – strongarm muscle Pete Bondurant, FBI agent Kemper Boyd, and accountant Ward Littell – who get drawn into a web of violent tension between the FBI, CIA, Mafia, Teamsters, and Howard Hughes, which all comes together in Dallas on the day of President JFK’s assassination. The novel is a great mixture of history and conspiracy theory, and it’ll certainly be a tough task for Franco to successfully bring it to the big screen.

We’ll have to see whether it actually does go ahead – after all we’re still waiting for Franco’s versions of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian and William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, which he’s previously announced.

HBO Developing Bored To Death Movie, Reuniting Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis & Ted Danson

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bored-to-death-pic1HBO may have cancelled the TV series Bored To Death back in December 2011, but they still like it enough to put a thaterical feature film in development that hopes to reunite series stars Jason Schwartzman (Jonathan), Zach Galifianakis (Ray), and Ted Danson (George). Series creator Jonathan Ames is currently writing the screenplay.

THR says that in the film, ‘Jonathan, Ray, and George reunite to fight crime, commit crime, lose their minds and fail at love in a Bored to Death feature-length slapstick adventure.’

The three seasons of the TV series saw Jason Schwartzman as Jonathan Ames, a writer and amateur private detective who tried to solve crimes in Brooklyn, with the help of his friend Ray (Zach Galifianakis) and his editor George (Ted Danson). Although it was cancelled, many suggested that wa smore to do with Galifianakis’ burgeoning movie career and the increasing costs of making the show than because HBO didn’t like it – hence why they’re keen on a film version.

David Fincher Circling Gone Girl With Reese Witherspoon Producing

January 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-fincherSince The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, David Fincher has been busy putting together the Netflix TV show House Of Card. He’s also been developing a big budget take on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for Disney, although the studio is yet to decide if it wants to make the film.

Now Variety reports that he’s in talks to direct a movie he can make if 20,000 leagues doesn’t come off – 20th Century Fox’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel, Gone Girl. The film is about a woman who disappears without a trace on her fifth wedding anniversary, with her husband being sought as the prime suspect in the missing persons case.

Reese Witherspoon is set to produce, although it isn’t known if she will also star. Fox paid seven figures to acquire the novel, beating out Universal Pictures in a bidding war. Getting Fincher onboard should ensure they get something very stylish. Assuming he does sign on, we’ll have to wait and see whether 20,00 Leagues or Gone Girl comes first.
