Rocketman Trailer – Taron Egerton is a fantastical version of a young Elton John

October 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Dexter Fletcher has certainly thrown himself into biopic of gay music legends recently, even if it was partially by accident. He ended up taking over direction of the Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and he’s also behind the lens for the long-gestating fantastical look at a young Elton John, Rocketman.

Here’s the brief synopsis: #ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.’ As you’d expect from Elton, this is not your typical biopic, with the whole thing taking place in a larger than life universe.

The film’s due in cinemas May 2019. Take a look at the first teaser trailer for the movie below. [Read more…]

October 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hollywood can’t resist Robin Hood, even if there have been two films about him that have failed for every one that’s succeeded. Now a new one is coming, with Taron Egerton in the title role (you could be forgiven for having never heard about it though, or just having forgotten it existed).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) a war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx) mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.’

October 2, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There have been an awful lot of Sherlock Holmes movies over the years. Now we’re getting a new one that’s taking Conan Doyle’s detective in a comedy direction, with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly reteaming as Holmes and Watson.

They’re joined by a great cast including the likes of Steve Coogan, Ralph Fiennes, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie and Rob Brydon. However, the jury is still out on whether the film itself will be any good.

We do now have our first taste of the film though, as a trailer has been released, which you can take a look at below. The film will be in cinemas around Christmas. [Read more…]

Colette Trailer – Keira Knightley takes on a bisexual French legend

September 25, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Unconventional country girl Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette has married a charismatic egomaniacal man of letters, 14 years her senior, known by the single name, Willy.  Through his auspices, Colette is introduced into the fecund world of the artistic demimonde in Paris where her creative appetite is sparked. Ever quick to capitalise on talent, Willy permits Colette to write her novels only if she does so in his name. The phenomenal success of her Claudine series makes Willy a famous writer and Colette and Willy the first modern celebrity couple. Although they are the toast of the town, lack of recognition for her work begins to gnaw on Colette. Their marriage starts to internally combust – but emotionally and artistically, she cannot break free of him. On a downward slide, Willy resorts to increasingly desperate measures to pay his debts and sabotage his wife but Colette is developing resources of her own.

‘Set at the dawn of the modern age, COLETTE is the story of a woman who has been denied her voice by an overbearing man, and who goes to extraordinary lengths to find it; a battle of the sexes at the very beginning of the modern age, when seismic shifts were taking place in the roles of men and women. More than a century after the publication of her first novel, Colette is still one of the best-selling, and beloved, French authors.’

The film apparently doesn’t shy away from Colette’s sexuality, which saw her have love affairs with both men and women. She married three times but also had a strong desire for sexual independence and for other women.

The film is out in the US this week and will arrive in the UK January 2019, following it’s screenings at the London Film Festival in October. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Mid90s Trailer – Jonah Hill makes his directorial debut with a coming of age tale

September 25, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Turns out Jonah Hill may be able to make the shift behind the camera if his acting career dries up, as following its first festival screenings, the buzz around his directorial debut has been good. Mid90s has gotten some pretty good reviews, with many praising Hills delicate touch and commitment to recreating a period in the fairly recent past.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Written and directed by Jonah Hill, Mid90s follows Stevie, a thirteen-year-old in 90s-era LA who spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a group of new friends that he meets at a Motor Avenue skate shop.’ The film stars Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges, Na-Kel Smith, Olan Prenatt, Gio Galicia, Ryder McLaughlin, Alexa Demie, and Katherine Waterston.

New Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Trailer – A classic Potter character isn’t what we thought

September 25, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today there’s been both delight and a lot of eye-rolling in the Harry Potter fandom following a reveal in the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald which brings back a ‘character’ from the Harry Potter novels but in a rather different form. Some love that things weren’t what they appeared (although it may also explain a few things), while others feel the whole thing feels like a rather daft retcon – while a few have even argued it may be sexist or racist. You can decide for yourself by watching below and seeing that something very close to Voldemort wasn’t always as we’ve previously seen it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

‘In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

‘The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp. The cast also includes, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and Poppy Corby-Tuech.

‘“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling.’ The film will be in cinemas November 16th 2018. Take a look at the new trailer and some character art below. [Read more…]
