With the enduring popularity of Anne Rice’s vampire novels, you can understand the numerous attempts to build them into a big movie franchise. While Interview With The Vampire was a big success, Queen Of The Damned rather ruined Lestat on the big screen – until now, that is.
THR reports that producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are teaming up with Reliance Big Entertainment, as well as Transformers writers/producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, to bring the Anne Rice novel The Tale of the Body Thief to the silver screen.
The novel is about the vampire Lestat, who has grown depressed after centuries as a vampire, and decides to transfer souls with a psychic for one day. The psychic, though, is invigorated by the switch and will not give Lestat his body back. Lestat must round up some friends with his new human form in order to get his vampire body back. So it’s basically a vampire body swap flick!
Lee Patterson will adapt the screenplay from Anne Rice’s novel. The Tale of the Body Thief is not set up at a studio yet, and it isn’t clear when production may start.
