Sacha Baron Cohen may have only had a small role in Les Miserables, but director Tom Hooper must have liked working with him, as Deadline reports that they may reunite for a biopic of Freddie Mercury. Baron Cohen’s been attached to the movie for quite a long time, but the film has had a bit of revolving door of directors.
Hooper hasn’t officially signed on to direct yet, but he is apparently seriously considering it.
Peter Morgan’s script will deal with the star’s rise to fame, leading up to the classic performance at 1985’s Live Aid, and won’t cover his death from AIDS, which helped remove a lot of the stigma of the disease. It’s not known either how frank it will be about his sexuality (although you’d have to presume it won’t sweep it under the carpet) The surviving members of Queen are all involved in the movie, ensuring the use of the band’s classic songs.
Queen themselves are involved in the film having licensed their most famous tracks, including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, We Will Rock you and Another One Bites The Dust for the movie. We’ll have to see whether Hooper does end up making the film.
