Matt Bomer Decides To Go Back In The Closet

Matt Bomer with Simon Halls, who’s now to be known as ‘Phyllis’

NOTE: For anyone who hadn’t guessed, this was an April Fool’s Day article and not real, designed to satirise the idea Bomer can’t play whatever role he’s able, just because of his sexuality – especially while others hide in the closet to ‘protect’ their careers.

It seems actor Matt Bomer has had second thoughts about letting the world know he’s gay, as he’s decided to go back in the closet. He revealed his sexuality last February at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, and has since given interviews about growing up gay and closeted.

At first it didn’t seem the news had affected his career, with the actor’s TV series, White Collar, seeing continued success, many swooning over his booty-shaking role in Magic Mike, and landing the role of Superman in an animated movie. He also took a shirtless guest spot on The New Normal and signed up to play gay in Ryan Murphy’s The Normal Heart.

However last August Bret Easton Ellis decided that Bomer was ‘too gay’ to play Christian Grey in a 50 Shades Of Grey movie. That, along with the fact he doesn’t seem to be allowed to do a film or TV episode without getting his shirt off, has prompted his decision to go back in the closet.

He released a statement saying, ‘Although I came out last year, I would now like everyone to forget the fact that I’m gay, as it doesn’t really make any difference to my career and the roles I can play. As a result, I would appreciate it if from now on the press could refer to my partner, Simon Halls, as ‘the definitely a female Phyllis’.

‘I thought perhaps that coming out would let people know I’m not ashamed and that this is just part of life, but just in case it becomes a distraction or there are any philistines who’ve knocked me off their casting lists purely because I’m gay, I liked everyone to now think I’m straight.

‘There are plenty of actors I know are gay, but who are constantly in the newspapers with stories about all the ‘dates’ they’ve gone on with women, so why should I miss out? After all, there’s not much to write about when I’m just at home with Simon (sorry, ‘the definitely a female Phyllis’) and the kids. Who knows, if I go back in the closet, perhaps in a few years they can make a movie about me and how tortured I was being in the closet’.

Who cares if Matt is, gay, straight, married, single, yellow, black, pink with blue spots!! I really dont care and no-one else should care either! Matt is a fantastic actor always has been, always will be! I think the fact that he came out was such a brave thing to do and no matter what anyone says Matt is human and deserves as much chance at a film role than anyone else, I love Matt in White collar, and loved him in Magic Mike! I think Matt can pull of any role and that is why I am backing Matt for the role of Christian Grey in Fifty shades of grey!!

@bomerbabe (and anyone else to whom this message applies): This post is clearly satirical (or some kind of joke, however you want to describe it). Matt hasn’t made any of the comments noted above, or gone back in the closet in any way. I’m not sure this piece is as funny as it wanted to be, but it makes a couple of worthwhile points.

We are who we are and we should be judged by our actions. He is a fantastic actor and caring human. That is the most important thing in the world! That he is so god looking it is just a bonus!
I think the article is really satirical April Fool ? and not funny at all. Still maybe it makes it’s point that it is time we think openminded

Again, although this is satire, you’ve labeled Matt a “gay” actor which is sad and will hurt him. He is an actor – period! He is also a role model for all, gay and straight in the elegant way he conducts his life. Few have his talent, few have his looks, few have his intellect, no one has his class.

People need to chill! Underlying meaning behind this article is actually amazing! This is written out of respect for him being NOT in the closet to “protect” his career, with a twist to tell those who are in closet and bearding should be feeling awkward. I’m hardcore Matt Bomer fan but I don’t understand why people aren’t getting the satirical meaning behind it? It’s not Matt they are targeting to insult, it’s the other way round.

OMG people, take a breath and chill out !! Can’t you just enjoy the humor and the awesome satiric references??! This article is the funniest and smartest answer I’ve seen in a while to all those who are saying Matt can’t be a good Alist actor because he’s out and proud of his family. So Bomer’s fans, it’s great that you love him so much and want to defend him, but here you can take a step back and just applaud this.

I would have preferred they satired NPH or another out actor that has no chance at a leading man career. Matt does have that chance and the only out actor that does have the chance of leading man material. So again he is labelled a gay actor. The best thing to do is not label anyone. We don’t say ‘black’ actor or ‘Asian’ actor so why is there any reference to orientation. Matt was brave enough to come out while his career was about to boom. Historically most come out when careers are fading. Lets leave labels on store shelves.

Lol this is hilarious! It’s satirical and nothing to get angry about ( and I’m ususally a very “protective” Matt fan myself, but I love this 😀 )

I suppose this is some kind of April Fool’s “joke” but it’s not funny. There are people who WILL believe this, and still people who hold to bigoted limitations on what a gay actor can or cannot do. And giving Brat Easton Ellis any more publicity for his tantrum is sad. It’s also sad that this site will abuse Matt Bomer’s name like this just to get traffic.

Who the hell cares if he’s gay or not? He’s a great actor, and he’s as handsome as a straight, married or single man could be, I mean being gay doesn’t make him (or anybody else) be ugly or become a bad actor. I think this thing of “He can’t be Christian Grey because he’s too gay to do it” is completely stupid. I mean, I didn’t know he was gay until my sister told me, after watching LOTS of episodes from White Collar. So stop it, you’re wasting your time. He’s perfect wether he’s gay or not. At least he’s got the courage to be who he is, not like others who pretend being what they’re not. #WeLoveMattBomer
