A couple of weeks ago the news emerged that Cheyenne Jackson had replaced Sean Hayes in the movie Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Now comes news that Broadway legend Rita Moreno has joined the cast. Also recently signed on, according to Variety, are Kathleen Rose Perkins, Anthony Zerbe and Simon Miller, who join the previously cast Gena Rowlands and Ann-Margret.
Rowlands is set to star as Lily Harrison, a retiree who hires high-spirited dance instructor Michael Minetti (Jackson) to give her private dance lessons in her St. Petersburg Beach, FL condo. The unlikely pair soon develop a friendship apart from dance.’ The relationship starts with lies – she pretending her husband is still alive, him pretending he isn’t gay and saying he’s married to a woman – but soon deepens into something more, with both coming to understand things about the other beyond the stereotypes.
Unfortunately there’s no news on who the other cast members will play, but it’s certainly a great ensemble. Filming starts April 8th in Budapest with Arthur Allan Seidelman directing from Richard Alfieri’s adaptation of his own play.
Moreno is one of the the world’s few EGOTs, people who’ve won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. She picked up her Academy Award for West Side Story, while her Tony came for the 1975 Broadway show, The Ritz. She’s only hispanic performer who’s ever managed the EGOT.
