Star Trek and Transformers writers/producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman must really like the comic book series Locke & Key, as despite initial attempts to turn it into a film failing, and then a pilot episode of a TV version not getting picked up by Fox (mainly due to budget issues), they haven’t given up.
Now they’ve signed a deal with Universal Pictures to move forward with plans to turn the failed Locke & Key pilot into a movie. Earlier reports suggested the studio was thinking of making a trilogy of movies, but it’s not know if that’s still the case.
Orci and Kurtzman aren’t even the first to try and turn it into a film, as it was being developed as a feature by Dimension Films back in 2008. Created by Joe Hill, Locke & Key is about three siblings who return to their massive estate in Massachusetts after their father’s murder. They soon realise that the house has magical keys that give supernatural powers to those who possess them, which they must use to stop an evil creature who also wants the keys.
