In the last couple of months it seemed the Point Break remake was coming together well, but a few days ago a major spanner was thrown into the works when Gerard Butler bailed.
He had been due to take over Patrick Swayze’s role, but a scheduling conflict meant he was forced to step away.
Backers Alcon and director Ericson Core (Invincible) have moved quickly to replace him though as Variety reports that Egdar Ramirez (Carlos, Wrath Of The Titans) has stepped into the role.
He joins Luke Bracey, who will be Johnny Utah, a young FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a crime syndicate who are involved in the world of international extreme sports. Ramirez will be Bodhi, who’s involved in the crimes and whose influence ends up with Utah questioning what side he should be on. Ray Winstone will also star.
Principal photography is set to begin early this summer.
