Colby Keller is not your average porn star. Indeed while to many people he’s just a hot, hairy guy who pops up in some exceedingly good sex scenes, Colby himself seems to view what he does through more artistic eyes – while never being afraid to say he’s a bit of a horndog.
Indeed he’s got a bit of a hipster spirit and anyone who’s ever read his blog, Big Shoe Diaries, will know he’s very smart and passionate about modern art, both created by others and by himself. For example, recently he turned a major life change into an art piece. As he says, “Out of necessity, I had to get rid of stuff but thanks to my awesome friends, family and fans, I was able to turn the process into an art practice and I feel immensely satisfied (not too mention light).”
Now he’s planning the next part of his life journey, and he’s bringing his artistic, erotic and hipster sides together to do it. But he needs your help! Colby has launched an IndieGoGo campaign, ‘Colby Does America… And Canada Too’, with the hope he can “procure a van, a mattress and a fancy camera so that I can travel across the country making porn and blogging in all 50 states and Canada.”
Normally we’d think someone asking the world for cash so they can go on a road-trip is a little egotistical, but with Colby you know you’re going to get something interesting, and the promise of porn across North America might be worth a donation too.
Colby also has an explanation of why you should donate, saying “You’ve worked hard for your money and why should you give it some flaky porn star? Well, I’m a hard worker and people have noticed. I’ve run my blog successfully for five years and been featured on Salon.com, the Advocate, OUT, New York Press, Next Magazine, Jacobin, Queerty, The Awl, Huffington Post and slew of other online and print outlets. I even won a World of Wonder (they’re the ones that produce RuPaul’s Drag Race) WOWie Award for Best Blog last year!

While Colby suggests it’s all about sex, there’s no doubt that his BigShoesDiaries blog will continue to offer a lot more than that, including Keller’s trips to museums, thoughts on culture and what are essentially collaborative art projects, albeit unusual ones (such as how he built a library of rather deep books on philosophy, art and literature by the seemingly lowbrow method of asking people to send them to him, and in return he’d take a photo holding the book while he’s got a boner. Is that art? Yep, it is, but not what you’d normally think it to be).
