After Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick became one of the most in-demand screenwriting teams in Hollywood, with the likes of GI Joe 2 and Deadpool handed to them. Now they’ve got another high concept idea to deal with, as Deadline reports that they’ve been hired to write Micronauts.
A film version has been mooted for nearly two years, when J.J. Abrams came aboard to produce. Micronauts were known as MicroMen when they were first launched by the Japanese toy company Takara in 1974. The Micronauts also appeared in a Marvel comic book in 1979, although it’s unlikely they’ll use too much of the outlandish fantasy storyline of that series. The toys are now owned by Hasbro, which sees a movie version as a priority, partly to help them relaunch the line.
The robot vehicles/toys are designed to be interconnective so you can put them together in various different combinations. The whole thing is a little Transformers-esque, except these robots are very small and come from a miniature alternate universe.
There’s no news on when we might see the film, but Hasbro is apparently very keen to get it up and running as soon as possible.
