Over the last few years there have been numerous earthquake-based disaster flicks that have been put into development, but none have shown up in cinemas yet. Now one is moving forward, as Variety reports that Dwayne Johnson is reuniting with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton for San Andreas: 3D.
Johnson will play a man who travels across California to rescue his estranged daughter after a massive earthquake strikes. The project has been in development at New Line Cinema since 2011, when Allan Loeb (The Switch) signed on to rewrite the original script by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore (Special). Lost’s Carlton Cuse signed on to rewrite the script in 2012, although the most recent draft was written by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring).
The current plan is to shoot in the first quarter of 2014, although there’s no news on when it might be in cinemas.
