There’s been a huge amount of talk about James Franco and his fascination with gay subjects. Is he gay? Is he in denial about it? Does he just wish he was gay? Is it all some sort contrarian wish to be seen as cool and edgy? So LGBT topics simply interest him?
Some have criticised him for it. Others have embraced him for it. While a lot more are just kind of intrigued as to why he’s so interested in it.
Zachary Quinto has no problem with it though. The two have just worked together on Michael, in which Franco plays a character who goes from being at the forefront of the fight for gay rights to marrying a woman and becoming poster boy for the ex-gay movement. Quinto plays his ex boyfriend.
Talking to Huffpo about Franco’s interest in gay subjects, Quinto says, “My feeling about James, in particular, is that he’s someone who is really interested in generating a dialogue… So I feel like putting it out there, and putting it out there in different ways, is something that’s interesting and something that I don’t think people should shy away from.”
As well as Michael, Franco has starred in gay-themed films such as Milk and Howl, as well as directing The Broken Tower, Sal and Interior Leather Bar.
