For a while now we’ve known that Ben Whishaw would be in the new James Bond movie, but even at the recent press conference where the film’s title was announced, director Sam Mendes refused to say exactly who Whishaw would be playing. Now THR has managed to uncover Ben’s role, so if you dont want to know, stop reading now!
Whishaw will be taking over a classic part in the franchise, as he’ll be playing gadget-master Q. The part was famously played by Desmond Llewelyn through most of Bond history (36 years in fact) with John Cleese taking over the role in the Pierce Brosnan era. However since the Daniel Craig reboot, there’s been no sign of Q (in fact the whole tendency towards outlandish gadgets has been downplayed), but now he’s coming back in Skyfall! As the actor is 12 years Craig’s junior, it’ll be the first time Q has been younger than the person playing Bond.
There are still a few other actors, such as Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes, whose roles in Skyfall are unknown, but expect info to leak out soon.
The movie is currently filming and will hit cinemas October 2012.
