LGBT-Themed Movie That’s Not Us Seeks Post-Production Funding To Get It To The Screen

February 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

that's-not-us-slideThe queer-themed movie That’s Not Us is nearly at the finish line. The improvised romantic comedy is in the can, but still needs a bit of help with post-production funding to get it finished. It’s now launched a Seed And Spark campaign to help cover the costs, with just a few days left to hit its target.

The film follows three couple – one lesbian, one straight and one gay – who arrive ‘on Fire Island to spend a September beach weekend together. As soon as they get off the ferry, they are in a different world: a place where wagons and bikes are the only form of transportation, and the local population has dwindled down to the last few trying extend those final days of summer.

‘The time off from the real world only seems to bring out the truth. Alex misses having sex with her girlfriend – is it because they’re moving in different directions? Can they find the place where they intersect again? Spencer’s dilemma calls the future into question. At what point do you commit to a person for the possibility of forever? How can you be sure? Dougie and Liz probe one another’s vulnerability. What is the difference between being with a person and knowing a person?’

Executive producer Mark Berger told Huffpo of the movie that, “The filmmaking couple behind the story, William Sullivan (director) and Derek Dodge (DP), wanted to reflect their own experiences of being in a committed relationship. While we all have different experiences with love, they felt like they weren’t seeing a lot of gay couples in film and TV that they could necessarily identify with. Making love last in today’s world isn’t easy. All relationships have challenging moments when you have to choose between staying put and walking away. Those are the moments where we show our vulnerabilities, and where these characters truly reveal themselves.”

The hope is that That’s Not Us will be finished in a few months time before heading to festivals later this years and then onto video on demand. If you’d like to find out more and perhaps give some cash, watch the crowdfunding video below and then head over to Seed and Spark.
