The Second Transgender Film Festival London Announces Its Lineup

July 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

in-the-turn-slideAfter its successful first outing last year, the Transgender Film Festival London is returning to the Cinema Museum on August 15th for its second edition.

With Caitlyn Jenner and Conchita Wurst, Laverne Cox on the cover of Time, and shows such as Transparent and Orange Is The New Black (and just this week two new reality shows have started in the US, I Am Cait and I Am Jazz), it’s been a massive year for increasing the profile of trans* people in the public consciousness.

However there’s also been a lot of work going on in independent film, reflecting a range of gender-diverse lives, which the festival (itself an offshoot of the successful Transgender Film Festival in Kiel, Germany) is hoping to showcase.

So what can you see? Take a look below.

IN THE TURN
(113 min.) by Erica Tremblay (USA)
Award-Winning Documentary with an empowerment-feeling: A young transperson faces intolerance
and finally finds a very warm welcome in the LGBT-community

WHAT IS PERFECT
(12 min.) by Dmitry Zhitov (USA)
The definition of beauty and the relationship to parents is as the center of this Miami-Drag-Queen-Documentary

TONIGHT IT’S ME
(13 min.) by Dominic Haxton (USA)
A hustler and a transwoman meet in Los Angeles. They start playing a game… A sequel is in the works to this award-winning film.

BEING BARBARA
(13 min.) by Guerreiro do Divino Amor (Germany)
Documentary about Berhard who sometimes is Barbara and Barbara, who sometimes is Bernhard

BRACE
(25 min.) by Sophy Holland and Alicya Eyo (UK)
Very energetic film against homophobia/transphobia in London (contains violent scenes)

ROXANNE
(14 min.) by Paul Frankl (UK)
Sweet short film about a trans-woman in London caring and her unexpected relationship with a child
