Director Gaspar Noe has always enjoyed going to the edge, whether it’s the controversial rape scene and violence of Irreversible, or the sex of We Fuck Alone (which featured a man having x-rated sex with a doll).
Now he’s back with a movie that on the surface is a little more straightforward than his earlier work, except that Love is an art film about a relationship, which features x-rated sex and was shot in 3D. Noe debuted the work at Cannes, where many suggested that while most of the film is a realistic look at human relationships, every so often it breaks into 3D explicit sex.
Unsurprisingly the trailer doesn’t have any nudity or sex, but it still gives a decent taste of the film.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Argentinian auteur Gaspar Noé’s new film, Love, wowed audiences during its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and it’s finally hitting theaters next month. The semi-autobiographical, sexually-charged movie was shot in stereoscopic 3D, and it’s the director’s most narratively ambitious film since 2009’s Enter the Void.
The film follows Murphy, who wakes in his apartment one New Year’s Day to a frantic call from his ex-girlfriend’s mother. His ex, Electra, has been missing for months and her mother fears the worst. Over the course of a long, rainy day, Murphy finds himself alone in his apartment, reminiscing about the greatest love affair of his life—the two years he spent with Electra.’
