Legends Of Tomorrow – Season 1 (Blu-ray Review)

September 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Arthur Darvill, Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell
Director: Various
Running Time: 681 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 29th 2016 (UK)

While Marvel has had great success in cinema but struggled more on TV, it’s generally been the other way around for DC. Arrow was soon joined by The Flash, then came Supergirl, online animated series and now Legends Of Tomorrow, with more shows planned. Legends certainly came with a lot of promise when it was first announced – a sort-of time-travelling equivalent of The Avengers – filled with lesser-known heroes (and villains), most of whom had been introduced in other DC shows.

Arthur Darvill plays Rip Hunter, who’s had a promotion since playing luckless companion Rory in Doctor Who, as he’s now a Time Master (not Lord), with his own equivalent of the TARDIS. Hunter comes from a future that has been taken over by the evil Vandal Savage, a 4,000-year-old immortal. Although he’s been banned from meddling in the past, Rip goes rogue, commandeering a time ship and heading to the 21st Century to put together a band of heroes, who will travel through time with him, trying to find Savage at various points in history so they can destroy him. Brandon Routh Wishes He Was Still Playing Gay In Sitcom Partners

February 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brandon-routhA couple of years ago it looked like gay people were going to take over US TV comedy, with Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal (about a gay couple having a baby), and Partners, which saw a couple of friends, one of them gay, going into business together.

However neither of them got past their first season, and with Partners not all of the 13 episodes that were made got a network airing in the US.

There’s one person who’s still smarting about the cancellation, Brandon Routh, who played Michael Urie’s boyfriend in Partners.

He tells xfinity, “I had such fun with that character and working with the fabulously talented Michael Urie and David [Krumholtz] and Sophia [Bush] and Max [Mutchnick, co-creator] and David [Kohan, co-creator] and everybody. That was one of those that still, we were on the right recipe and such a good family.”

He adds, “I get people all the time at conventions a lot say, ‘Oh, Partners was so great.’ A lot in Canada because they got to see, I think they might have gotten a few more episodes than we (in the US) got to see. I hear from people on Twitter in South Africa where they got to see all 13 episodes, they released all of them there.”

Routh also talks about he’s grateful for his gay fans, saying “I appreciate the support from everyone. Thankfully, the world, society, is coming to a more rational thought process about sexuality.”

Brandon has recently joined Arrow playing Ray Palmer, aka Atom. You can check out a great image of him in costume here.

Brandon Routh Gets Suited Up As A Costumed Atom In Our First Look At Him In Arrow

February 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

arrow-brandon-routh-atom Brandon Routh is getting his superhero on again as Atom in Arrow. While we’ve seen his character, Ray Palmer, in earlier episodes, he’s not actually donning the Atom suit until episode 15 of Season 3. However to give us our first taste a great picture of him in costume has been released.

It may not be Superman, but he’s looking pretty good.

Little is known about how this character will fit into the show. He could be teaming up with Arrow and co., or possibly he’ll be a vigilante on his own. It’s also rumoured that along with Arrow and Flash, the CW Network is planning an Atom show.

That possible spin-off is still in the early stages, but if fans respond to Routh’s heroics in the coming weeks, expect to see a lot more of him in his own show.

Brandon Routh Joins The Hot Guys Of Arrow For Season 3

July 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brandon-routhI presume that when the producers are thinking of bringing a new male character into TV’s Arrow, the top of the list when it comes to casting is that they must being very good looking. They’re certainly keeping with that for Season 3, as the likes of Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes and David Ramsey, will be joined by Superman Returns star Brandon Routh.

Variety reports that he will play Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom. The ‘character is a scientist and inventor that will have an unexpected yet mysterious role in the lives of Oliver (Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards)’.

In the comics Palmer can shrink down to subatomic size. It’ll be interesting to see whether they keep that in Arrow. So far the show has largely eschewed characters with the more fantastical kinds of special powers, however with The Flash getting a sister show to Arrow, it may well be that these things will become a more regular part of the show.

We’ll just have to wait and see what they do with Routh.

Brandon Routh Playing Gay In TV Pilot, Partners

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Superman is going gay! Well, an actor who once played Superman is playing gay at lease. Brandon Routh has landed a role in an upcoming TV pilot, playing as the boyfriend of Ugly Betty star and real-life homo Michael Urie.

The show, called Partners, is from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan and centres on lifelong friends and business partners, Charlie (Sophia Bush), who is straight, and Louis (Urie), who is gay. According to Deadline, Routh will play Louis’ longterm boyfriend, a reformed alcoholic, club-hopping model, who’s now a sober, vegan nurse.

Just because they’re making a pilot doesn’t mean it’ll become a series, but with Mutchnick and Kohan behind the camera, it’s certainly got pedigree.

Superman Returns may not have given Routh a massive movie career, but perhaps his career will get new life on TV. He’s certainly pretty, so the more we see of him the better!
