Mowgli Trailer – Andy Serkis offers up a darker motion-capture take on The Jungle Book

May 21, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the huge success of Disney’s live-action Jungle Book, many wondered how the planned Andy Serkis directed take of Rudyard Kipling’s tales was going to find its place. Well, it seems Warner Bros. has decided to leave a couple of years between the movies and to sell it as the darkest, most intense version of the story yet – as evidenced by the first trailer and featurette. There’s also a poster that looks oddly like it’s from a 1960s/1970s exploitation horror film.

Synopsis: ‘Motion capture and live action are blended for “Mowgli,” a new, big-screen, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book. The film features an impressive roster of stars under the direction of Andy Serkis.

‘The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.

‘The actors performing the roles of the story’s central animal characters are: Oscar winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter,” the “Dark Knight” Trilogy) as the cunning panther, Bagheera; Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “The Aviator”) as the sinister snake, Kaa; Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game,” “Avengers: Infinity War”) as the fearsome tiger, Shere Khan; Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (“Moonlight,” “Skyfall”) as Nisha, the female wolf, who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; and Andy Serkis (the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) as the wise bear, Baloo. On the human side, Matthew Rhys (“The Post”) is Lockwood; Freida Pinto (“Knight of Cups”) is Messua; and young actor Rohan Chand (“The Hundred-Foot Journey,” “Bad Words”) will play Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves.’

The film is due in cinemas on October 19th. Take a look at the first trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

New Ocean’s Eight Trailer – Sandra Bullock leads a star-studded female team on a heist

April 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter team up in the action adventure Ocean’s 8. Five years, eight months, 12 days…and counting. That’s how long Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) has been devising the biggest heist of her life.

‘She knows what it’s going to take—a team of the best in their field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller (Cate Blanchett). Together, they recruit a crew of specialists: jeweller Amita (Kaling); street con Constance (Awkwafina); expert fence Tammy (Paulson); hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna); and fashion designer Rose (Bonham Carter). The target is a cool $150 million dollars in diamonds—diamonds that will be around the neck of world-famous actress Daphne Kluger (Hathaway), who will be centerstage at the event of the year, the Met Gala.

‘The plan is rock solid, but everything will need to be flawless if the team is going to get in and get away with the ice. All in plain sight. “Ocean’s 8” also stars James Corden as an insurance investigator trying to put the pieces together, and Richard Armitage as Kluger’s unwitting date at the Gala.’

The film hits UK cinemas on 22nd June. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Thor: Ragnarok (Cinema Review) – The God of Thunder is back & so is The Hulk

October 24, 2017 By George Elcombe Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum
Director: Taika Waititi
Running Time: 130 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: October 24th 2017

I have absolutely no problem with Disney churning out Marvel (or Star Wars) films as long as the quality is up to scratch. Thankfully, they are indeed on point with this third and possibly final Thor movie.

Thor: Ragnarok is set two years after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) – although that film’s events seemed more like a week rather than an age – and our hero Thor, the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth), is forewarned about Ragnarok: a prophecy that spells the destruction of his homeland of Asgard. Cate Blanchett May Join Jack Black In Eli Roth’s House With A Clock In Its Walls

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate Blanchett and Jack Black aren’t the first people you’d think of for a movie directed by Eli Roth, the man behind Hostel, Cabin Fever and The Green Inferno. However, Black is already onboard his upcoming The House With A Clock In Its Walls, while Variety report Blanchett is not in talks to join him.

The film is an adaptation of John Bellairs 1973 novel, which was illustrated by Edward Gorey. It ‘tells the tale of a recently orphaned 10-year-old boy who discovers a world of hidden passageways, magic, and danger in his uncle’s old house.’

As that synopsis suggests, this is going to be different in tone the Roth’s often dark, gory and very grown-up movies. The House With A Clock In Its Walls is still in the horror wheelhouse, but Bellair’s book was written for younger readers, so it’s likely the movie will follow suit.

New Thor: Ragnarok Trailer – (Including a shirtless Chris Hemsworth) Plus an ace new poster for Black Panther

July 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While the first two Thor films were fun, they were sometimes a bit too serious for their own good. It’s something that became more of an issue in the second movie, where it became more difficult not to realise how silly some of it was, when everyone was taking it so seriously.

However, it seems that for Thor: Ragnarok they’re taking a leaf out of the Guardians Of The Galaxy playbook and introducing a lot more humour. Indeed, there will be a bit of a Guardians crossover, as Jeff Goldblum who was seen as the Grandmaster on Guardian Vol. 2, will also be in the third Thor film. From the evidence of the new trailer, while the additional humour changes Thor, it should work, as it looks a lot of fun.

Alongside a new Thor: Ragnarok trailer and poster, to coincide with Marvel’s Comic Con panel, a Black Panther poster has been released, which it has to be said, is pretty cool.

Here’s the Thor: Ragnarok synopsis: ‘In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

‘Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.’

Thor: Ragnarok will be in UK cinemas on October 27th. Black Panther will be released February 2018. [Read more…]

Thor: Ragnarok Trailer – Chris Hemsworth has a new haircut & is battling Cate Blanchett

April 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like there’s gonna be a bit of a change for the third Thor movie, with more of a Guardians Of The Galaxy feel, rather than the rather po-faced previous adventures. That includes the destruction of Asgard, as well as Thor’s infamous hammer, and the demigod getting a brand new hairdo.

It certainly looks like it could be a lot of fun, with a goth Cate Blanchett causing trouble, and Thor having to face Hulk in hand-to-hand combat.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk! “Thor: Ragnarok” thunders into UK Cinemas this October.’

First Look At Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett & The Women Of Ocean’s 8

January 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Ocean’s franchise is coming back, but George Clooney, Brad Pitt and co. won’t be around this turn (although Matt Damon will show up for a cameo), with the action moving across to an octet of women who are getting into the heist game. The movie is now shooting and the first image from the film has been released, as you can see above.

It has to be said though, the ladies don’t look like they’re having a lot of fun in the pic.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The tide has turned and it’s a whole new “Ocean’s” when eight women plan and execute a heist in New York. Oscar winner Sandra Bullock stars in the title role, alongside Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter.  Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gary Ross is directing.

‘The film is set for release in Summer 2018 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.’

Manifesto Trailer – Cate Blanchett takes on the art world as 13 different characters

January 15, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate Blanchett is already renowned as one of the most versatile actors around, winning herself two Oscar. Hell, she was even convincing as a unique version of Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes I’m Not There. Now she’s taking on 13 different roles in the Manifesto.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tour-de-force: a term so overused that we need an undeniable acting performance to renew its meaning for cinema. Cate Blanchett has just given us one, going all-out in Manifesto. Already respected as one of the best actresses in film, Blanchett raises the bar even higher by playing 13 different roles in Manifesto, embodying some of the most influential and emotional artist manifestos in history.

‘The architect of this unique film idea is director Julian Rosefeldt, a veteran of intricate films and installations. In Manifesto, he uses the words from various twentieth century manifestos of artists, architects, and filmmakers for dialogue. With a gorgeous production and luscious cinematography that would make Baz Luhrmann proud, Rosefeldt puts Blanchett in the everyday world—as a housewife, a factory worker, or a TV anchor—declaring the words that have inspired whole art movements. Manifesto is entertaining while also asking us to question if these passionate statements still hold true and inspire us today.’

The movie will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival. [Read more…]
