Dallas Buyers Club Trailer – Matthew McConaughey fights back against AIDS in the mid-80s

August 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like Matthew McConaughey may be going for an Oscar run with The Dallas Buyers Club, losing huge amounts of weight to play Ron Woodroof, who fought back against government inaction over the introduction of HIV medication in the 1980s. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived.

Woodroof was an ordinary man who found himself in a life-or-death battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies. In 1986, Ron was blindsided by being diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live.

With the US still internally divided over how to combat the virus and restricting medications, Ron grabbed hold of non-toxic alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. Seeking to avoid government sanctions against selling non-approved medicines and supplements, he established a “buyers club,” which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.

Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto (as a gay transvestite, no less), Dennis Hare, Steve Zahn, Dallas Roberts and Griffin Dunne also star. Focus Features will release the movie in the US in December, while it’ll reach the UK on February 7th. [Read more…]

Jared Leto Goes Female For The Cover Of Candy

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jared-leto-candyCandy is a magazine ‘celebrating transvestism, transexuality, cross dressing, and androgyny in all its manifestations’, and for their fourth issue, they’ve managed to get a shot of Jared Leto by famed photographer Terry Richardson’s, where the actor and singer has decided to channel his inner Katy Perry.

And as has been pointed out before, Leto would make a very hot woman.

He’ll be seen in female garb later this year in Dallas Buyers Club, where he plays a cross-dressing gay man who becomes involved in Texas electrician Ron Woodroof plan to bring HIV medication across the border into the States during the 1980s, when the US government was dragging its heels on approving therapies. The based on a true story is due out at the end of the year.

Jared Leto Looks Scary In New Terry Richardson Pics

November 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jared Leto has always been slim, but he’s lost even more weight to play a gay man with AIDS in The Dallas Buyer’s Club, and to get the cross-dressing part of his role right, he’s also shaved off his eyebrows.

Now cross that with Terry Richardson, a photographer renowned for taking pics of celebs that make you look twice as they don’t quite look like they do under anyone else’s lens.

Richardson has posted a series of recent shots of Leto, showing him in super-skinny, eyebrow-free mode, and to be honest he looks pretty scary. You could plonk him in a horror movie like that and he could be the psycho villain without any make-up – although that said, he does look pretty sexy in the pic below where he’s wearing glasses.

Dallas Buyer’s Club is based on the true story movie of Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. When he’s given just six months to live, he becomes frustrated with the lack of medical options in the US, due to the fact drugs have to be extensively tested by the FDA before they become available to patients, he begins smuggling alternative drugs into the country from Mexico. Jared Leto will portray Rayon, a gay, cross-dressing AIDS patient Woodruff befriends at the hospital.

You can see more of Richardson’s pics of Leto over at his website and below. [Read more…]

Denis O’Hare And Bradford Cox Head For Dallas Buyer’s Club

Denis O’Hare

The Dallas Buyer’s Club is already shooting (we had the first set shots of Jared Leto playing his cross-dressing role a few days again), but that doesn’t mean the complete cast has been announced. The likes of Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, Steve Zahn, Dallas Roberts and Jennifer Garner are already on the New Orleans set and now THR reports that they’ll be joined by Griffin Dunne, Denis O’Hare and Bradford Cox.

The based on a true story movie is about Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986.

Dunne and out actor Denis O’Hare are both set to play doctors who get involved with Woodruff, while Cox (who’s best known as a musician, who sings with Deerhunter and worked on the score for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are) will play Leto’s lover. Jean Marc Vallee directs.

Jared Leto Cross Dresses In First Dallas Buyer’s Club Set Photos

November 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Jared Leto was set to play a flamboyant, cross-dressing gay character in The Dallas Buyer’s Club. Now the movie has started shooting and Just Jared has gotten hold of the first shots from the set, showing Leto in character, along with a very skinny Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.

I can’t say it’s Jared’s best look ever, but it certainly shows off his cheekbones and he’s oddly reminiscent of Cillian Murphy in Breakfast On Pluto (although that may just be because of the furry jacket).

The movie is about Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. After becoming frustrated with the lack of medical options in the US, due to the fact drugs have to be extensively tested by the FDA before they become available to patients, he begins smuggling alternative drugs into the country from Mexico. Jared Leto will portray Rayon, another AIDS patient Woodruff befriends at the hospital.

It’s also been revealed via Variety that that the wonderful Steve Zahn and Dallas Roberts have joined the cast as it’s started shooting. The Grey’s Roberts will play Woodruff’s defence attorney David Wayne, who fought for the FDA to allow AIDS patients to get potentially life-saving drugs. Zahn is set to be a Dallas policeman who turns a blind eye to Woodruff’s smuggling, as he sympathises with his predicament after having dealt with his father’s Alzheimer’s.

Jean-Marc Vallée is directing from a screenplay by Melisa Wallack and Craig Borten. Click on the pics below for a better look at McConaughey, Garner and Leto, or head over to Just Jared for a few more images.

Jared Leto Going Flamboyantly Gay For Dallas Buyer’s Club

November 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

As he’s been concentrating on being a bit of a douche in his band 30 Seconds To Mars, Jared Leto hasn’t been doing a lot of acting in the last few years. His last role was in the indie flick Mr. Nobody in 2009. However now he’s set to return to the big screen in The Dallas Buyers Club, playing a flamboyantly gay cross-dresser, according to Variety.

The movie is about Ron Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. Gael García Bernal was previously in talks for the showy cross-dressing role, but a deal was never made. Jennifer Garner also stars.

Jean-Marc Vallée is directing from a screenplay by Melisa Wallack and Craig Borten, with production scheduled to begin next week in New Orleans. Leto can fit it in as 30 Seconds to Mars have recently wrapped up a world tour.
